Very happy that this American's remains have been recovered. Also I am very pleased that the Government has kept up the search all these years. But do you think the witnesses could have come forward years ago with information? My experience with getting information from local Afghans during my deployment there brought extreme bitterness towards (some of) the locals in my battlespace. Greed for US financial aide spread like a disease making it difficult to collect information without "paying off" some local. Even if the information would bring benefits to him. I had to step back a take deep breaths many many times to avoid creating some huge ordeal and later a seeded IED or ambush along the routes near our COP.
