Good Morning..
I'm currently in the U.S. Air Force (ANG), with a Combat Comm. unit out of MA. I've been in the military for over 10 years, and am currently an E6 (Tech. Sergeant). I've been to 13 countries, 46 states, and volunteer for every deployment, trip and opportunity I can. I love being apart of the U.S. Military, to the deepest of my soul.
I've come to this forum to learn more about crossing over from Blue-to-Green, as my current job is very boring, and I've always wanted to work with SOF. I've had the pleasure of working and deploying with both Army and AF SOF, and must admit they are the definition of consument professionals. I've always prided myself with a, "never quit," attitude, and I always apply more than myself, regardless of the situation.
My concerns of me crossing over are simple: What is the training for prior NCOs, versus the Pipeline, and the ability to obtain the coveted Opt. 40 in the contract. Lastly, since I still have a couple years on this current enlistment, what are the chances of being able to go RegArmy??
I'll be doing quite a bit of searching on this site, and hope to speak to some of the Rangers on here, mostly about life as a Ranger..

Thanks for the words.. I found a thread that was from a prior Marine that said he went to a shortened version of Basic, and then followed it up with Airborne and then RIP. I think it was a couple years old, but I figure that's probably still the SOP.. I wouldn't care if I had to go through Basic again, but I doubt they'd do that in my case. I'm not worried about losing a stripe, since I know I can eventually make it back.. I'm doing this for a few reasons..
Anyway, back to work..

Re: Intro..
Welcome.
Have you thought a about a Ranger School packet? We put dozens of zoomies a year through PRC so the slots are there. If you decide to switch over it will pay dividends and actually make it easier to chart your future SOF career progress. Do you hang around any TACPs? Those wankers can help you get slots.

Unfortunately, the only TACPs or any type of JTACs we had here are gone.. The only delay that I've been having lately, is just making absolutely certain that I'm in the best physical shape possible.. I'd rather go down there over-prepared (is there a such thing??) and tool on some 19-25 y/o kids, than go down and be a slug..
I've been reading posts all day (work is real slow), and I'm starting to get a better understanding of the process.. I'm going to contact a recruiter this week, to find out more about the crossing over process, since I have years left on my current enlistment. I have no problems serving concurrent enlistments, or even just making it one length of time.
I'm career military.. I don't really know much else, nor do I care to work in most civilian industry..

Ranger Kilted Heathen has given you some great advice, and you shouild at least explore the TACP re-enlistment opportunity you have in the Air Force.
WE NEED MORE RANGERS!

Ranger Bill:
I've begun looking into that route, but it is a bit more difficult, as they are a few years backed up for RegAF, and I just don't want to do the Reserves or ANG anymore.. I prefer to go AD at a minimum. I did notice that the RegAF is adding nearly 2600 new SOF positions (CCT/PJ) in the coming year or so, so it is also a possibility, but I prefer to go the Ranger route, from all of my research..

Ranger Lunch:
Truth be told, I've done a lot of research for the last year and a half, and found out that there is also an entry age limit for AFSOF, which I believe is 28 y/o for enlisted (I'll be 29 in October) or 32 for ALO/STO.. I plan on finishing college, just not that soon, and I prefer to stay enlisted..
The AF has treated me well, I can't complain there, although they limit the times I can deploy, it's become more corporate, instead of regimented (like it used to be a few years back).. Add to all of that the cutting and cost savings they're doing, and it's like being at a high school summer camp; ridiculous.. I volunteered to serve my country, not to be treated like I'm 8 y/o.. After my last deployment, where I was with the 10th MTN, I saw the differences in how people work, and are treated.. Some say it's worse, I think it's better.. Some people just can't handle life when it sucks, so they either complain, bitch or whatever; or they get out.. I have no intentions of getting out, and if I'm going to stay in, I'd like to do something better than just the "regular job."
And to add to all of that, I was brought up in an AF household with both parents combine service time of nearly 70 years, it was sort of a given that I headed off to the AF.. I have regretted it a few times, but I don't think I'd do it over again..
