Introduction - Christopher

Post by Caveman's_Kid »

Hello Rangers,
My name is Christopher, I was born at Fort Bragg and grew up in an Airborne Infantry house most of my life. I enlisted in late 1999, and loved practically every day I've been wearing the uniform. While I did choose this pog MOS (commo), I have always to wanted to work the very best the Military has to offer. I have been fortunate enough to work with various members of the Ranger and SOF community during my time in, and there is by far no greater soldier. By chance my section sergeant went to ANCOC with an NCO currently at the 75th Ranger Regiment, and the ball is currently rolling to get me there as well. I have been training for ROP and Airborne School for quite some time, although I doubt anything will fully prepare me for the challanges I have ahead of me. I cannot wait to meet them head on and overcome each and every obstacle. Should fortune indeed favor the bold, the possibility of me joining the ranks of America's premier fighting force will amoung the proudest ever in my life.

Rangers,
Please disregard the secondary posting of the introduction. The computer I am using froze up on me and I inadvertantly submitted the introduction twice.

Very Respectfully,

So you are training for ROP and Airborne School, yet your avatar shows the 82nd. Please explain. I'm hoping it's a typo, and you meant Ranger School and that you are Airborne qualified and currently serving in the 82nd.

I will delete your other intro.

Good Morning Ranger Bravo57,
I picked the 82nd patch because it is where I was born and happily raised. I am currently only Air Assault qualified, my Airborne friends love to rightfully poke at me for only having "starter wings." I have already turned in my 75th Ranger Regiment Assignment Application packet to the Ranger Recruiting Team at DA. So far I have received an Airborne School date (which I can't wait to start) but nothing yet on a date to attend Ranger Orientation Program. I have a slew of questions to better prep myself, I just have to find the appropriate forum channels to place them in so I'm not breaking the websites RoE. Thankyou for deleting my previous posting.

Very Respectfully,
~Christopher

***MOVED TO PROPER FORUM BY ADMIN***

I guess I'm confused. I'm assuming that your father was in the 82nd...not you. Based on that assumption, I changed your avatar, as we do not allow avatars or usernames which contain military titles, awards, etc which have not been earned by the user.

Welcome to the site, and good luck in your pursuit of the Tan Beret.

Looks like you have about ten years of service, and are now headed for ROP. Please tell us what you have been doing.

You said you enlisted in 1999; that should mean you have about 10 years service. You said you were training for ROP; so I assume you expect to enter ROP soon. My question was what have you been doing (assignments, schools, etc.) since 1999?

Good Afternoon Ranger Jim,
I enlisted in the Army in 1999 originally signing on as a 92R (Parachute Rigger). Midway through AIT I changed my MOS to 74B (Signal, computer specialist). I spent my first 3 years in a line unit with the Field Artillery at Fort Sill, OK. While there I went on various missions on/off installation mostly working as a 31U (Radio-Operator). Early 2003 I went to South Korea and was fortunate enough to work with Rangers, SF, and Infantry personnel. While there I allowed to join in with CQC exercises acting as OPFOR, and aiding the Base Defense NCOIC. I left South Korea and arrived at Fort Bliss as a fresh buck SGT, going on various joint and command-level exercises, typically being sent as the only signal support to the unit/team. While there I earned the rank of SSG and my Air Assault starter wings and completed two Bataan Death Marches (Male, Military-Heavy catagory). I left Fort Bliss in early 2007 arriving once more to South Korea working with MI folks. My current wife's stabilization to Fort Bliss errantly took me back once to Fort Bliss where I was in a Joint unit which disbanded on me. I completed BNCOC, returning to Fort Bliss and completing my third Bataan Death March. Here at Fort Bliss, I first got in contact with the Ranger Recruiting Team at DA. Since my initial contact with the Ranger Recruiting Team I've shaved off over 30 pounds of BNCOC weight, and been picking the brain housing groups of every guy in my unit who is a Ranger, or SF for useful information. I've completed the basic courses nearly every soldier does like driver's training, combat lifesaver course, MACP (the Army's current hand to hand training). I'm currently awaiting slots from my unit for MACP - Level 2 (advanced striking and grappling techniques), and Repel Masters Course. My weekly workout plan is as such:
Monday: Morning - unit PT / Lunch - weights, upper body / Nighttime - pushups, pull-ups, dips.
Tuesday: Morning - unit PT / Lunch - swim in BDU's, 300 meters / Nighttime - track run, situp-crunches.
Wednesday: Morning - unit PT / Lunch - weights, upper body / Nighttime - pushups, pullups, dips.
Thursday: Morning - STT / Lunch - road march w/60 ruck, roughly 6 miles / Nighttime - track run, situp-crunches.
Friday: Morning - Unit PT / Lunch - weights, upper body / Nighttime - pushups, pullups, dips.
Saturday: road march w/ 60 pound ruck, 13 miles up and down a mountain.
Sunday: recuperate.
On Saturday's when the events come about on post I help out the post installation repel master at the Air Assault tower, putting swiss-seats on dependants, joes, and DOD-personnel tossing them (sometimes unwillingly) off the tower. I've picked up a copy of The Ranger Handbook at the local MCSS, studying the Ranger History and The Ranger Creed. Outside of that I'm more then happy to receive any guidance as to what I need to be doing in order to prep for ROP.

V/R,
~Christopher

CK, I Have one question for you! How did you change your mos from Rigger during AIT when you go to BAC before going to FT Lee? (AIT)

Good moring EAT-III,
I left basic and headed to Fort Lee, VA to attend the Airborne Orientation Course. After that, I was sent to Fort Benning for Jump School. Calling my dad and discovering I had made a horrible career choice in MOS's, I took the advice given to me and refused my 2nd jump, which terminated my entire enilistment contract. I was sent to the "white house," which was HHC 1-507th PIR, and reclassed to my current MOS. Directly after that I left Fort Benning, and went to Fort Gordon to my new/current AIT, all of this was roughly 9 years ago. I've been beating myself up about the refusing those last jumps for nearly a decade ago, but I am finally going down the path I should've taken all those years ago, going Ranger.

Are you saying I fucked up and finished my Duty as a Rigger before I got the chance to go Ranger which is what I wanted in the first place! not to mention it was a great base line education for all aspects of Airbone Ops ie: RIGGING ( to include door bundels, zoidacs, Bikes, Gun Jeeps etc), DZ Ops, Sling loads, Ac configeration....... 3rd, YOU QUIT!!! JUMP REFUSAL put your entrire Chalk/Stick/AC in a Dangerous situation that could of had serious results, not just little johny didnt like his contract!!!!!

I see LOM in every thing your about to TRY to do! Tell Me why I should think otherwise!
