By back in 05, you mean you were say 15 or 16, and it's only one case of shoplifting and nothing else is on your record, you should be able to receive a waiver and be elegible for an Option 40. As far as Airborne goes, there is no security clearance required, and if you morally qualify for enlistment in the Army, you should be good to go as long as you meet the other requirements.
WE NEED MORE RANGERS!

I didn't even get airborne on my contract. I just don't understand. I've been working on
this for so long and all I got was the 11x? I feel like all my work was for nothing. I've
been busting my ass working out to do this, reading every military book I could get my
hands on to get fed bullshit by some liason. I'm just so pissed!
I'm just going to drive on and volunteer while at Infantry school. I will get there. He
that can have patience can have what he will. Thank you Rangers and fellow Soldiers for
all the knowledge and guidance. I'll be back here soon

ape i may have just snatched up your contract haha. i went down to meps on april 23rd and secured one of the last option 40 contracts available on a total fluke, or so my liason told me. he said that someone must had literally just dropped their contract for me to have got mine.
but as far as split-op to option 40 is concerned, i strongly recommend that if anyone wants to be a Ranger, go active duty first and just forget about that reserve jazz. i joined when i was a junior and was promised that i would be released before i was mosq'd, yadda yadda, and it never happened. that was in early 2007. i just got my release and new contract 2 months ago.
USAREC is also considering closing the prior service enlistment category all-together, because the army is quickly becoming over-strength. so if youre a mosq'd guardsmen or reservist, your chances for enlistment are pretty slim, even if you get released from your unit. but on a positive note, if you do somehow manage to get released and enlisted into the regular army, the only job available to prior service is 11x :D haha

Messages have gone out from Office of the Chief, Army Reserve (OCAR) directing commanders administratively drop members who are being carried on unit rosters, but have not drilled for a prolonged period of time. This will reflect the USAR troop levels more accurately, and not exceed Congressional ceilings for end-strengths.StillFired wrote:USAREC is also considering closing the prior service enlistment category all-together, because the army is quickly becoming over-strength. so if youre a mosq'd guardsmen or reservist, your chances for enlistment are pretty slim, even if you get released from your unit. but on a positive note, if you do somehow manage to get released and enlisted into the regular army, the only job available to prior service is 11x.

The VN era style olution is better: mobilize them for the reminder of their service committment rounded up to the next year.Jim wrote:Messages have gone out from Office of the Chief, Army Reserve (OCAR) directing commanders administratively drop members who are being carried on unit rosters, but have not drilled for a prolonged period of time.
