Troops rush to plug 'dangerous' cracks in dam

Post by Chiron »

HANWANG, China - Chinese troops rushed to plug "extremely dangerous" cracks in a dam upriver from Dujiangyan an earthquake-hit town, state media said Thursday.

Meantime, military helicopters dropped food and medicine to earthquake survivors who remained cut off Wednesday in remote mountain villages behind roads clogged by landslides, while the official death toll rose to nearly 15,000.

The official Xinhua News Agency said Wednesday that nearly 26,000 people were still buried under debris and another 14,000 people remain missing. Those figures are in addition to the official death toll, the Xinhua said.

Full story

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Lets see: 15,000 dead, 26,000 under debris, 14,000 missing = 55,000

If the dam breaks i wonder how many more will drown...

I'd say they have issues to solve and lives to save.

For what it's worth God help them.

I hope not! They can do it on their own. We're talking about a huge economy.

The sad thing is that they got hit with a big one and will suffer. My guess is that if one of our big cities got hit with a 7.9 and up we would be in a world of hurt..../

I wonder what kind of support we'd get from the global community if this happened to us.

None.... Then maybe a few blankets if it's winter. Now that you bring this up I always wished that we would stop spending so much $$ to save other countries that would let us sink.

Interesting link.

I noticed that we got "Up to $1 million" from Venezuela, but only $100K from Afghanistan? WTF, all that opium and $100K is all they can toss in the hat? Ungrateful bastards.

My vote for coolest donation goes to Greece with two cruise ships. We need more Greeks in the world.

No matter what country, it just about always comes down to the fact that the military is the only organization capable of getting things done.
