Marine nadnklipsch,
I don’t plan on staying in the Marine DEP; I have my second appointment with an Army recruiter Thursday. Also Recon sounds too water oriented for my liking. My Marine recruiter did mention the Security Forces MOS, which does sound slightly appealing so I will continue to look at all my options.
Rangers,
Thank you again for the welcome.

Rangers,
I figured I would give an update on my situation with the Marine Corps. Back in march I sent them a letter to withdraw from DEP, they signed for the letter but took no action. They would not return my calls so I contacted the office of my local Senator, after a call from them they supposedly took action. The head of the recruiting station said he put through my request to withdraw and I should be all set by the first of the next month (April).
Yesterday my Army recruiter put through a request to MEPS for my test scores so that I could enlist in the Army, hopefully with an 11x Option 40 contract. MEPS said he could not access such information because I am currently enlisted in the USMC DEP. I called the Marine recruiting station today and was told there’s nothing they can do at this point. They said I’m going to have to wait until exactly one year since I signed (Sep. 20) before I can enlist in a different branch . I also called the GI rights hotline and their councilor said the same.
At this point I’m not sure what to do. I don’t want to wait for September for several reasons. Mainly because I would like to leave sooner and if I’m correct I don’t believe you can apply for a mentor on this site unless you actually have an Option 40 contract?
I would appreciate any advice
Thank you,
Rob
