Question about my recruiter

Post by ArkansasAlex »

Hello, I have been on this site for several years now, and I appreciate every post that you Rangers have posted here. I hate posting, but I have read and read, did some PU's then read more. And I still can't find an answer to this question that I have, so here it is:

I finally decided it's time to nut up and chase and conquer my dream of becoming an ARMY Ranger, so I started running and dieting, and lost over 70lbs (from 305 to 231lbs) So I went to the recruiter today (been slacking ass so long, none of the ones I use to know ever work there anymore) And started talking to a recruiter. When he finally asked if I had any idea what I wanted to do, I told him "11x option 40, nothing less" Then he started telling me the things everyone that has wanted to join has hear, "nah, what YOU want/need to do is get a regular infantry contract then sign up for Ranger once you have got done...." and so on and so on. Well I stuck to my guns and told him that the only way I will join is if I have it in my contract. He kept on BS'ing, and finally another recruiter across the room (He is a Ranger) Just told him "Why the hell don't you just try and get him his damn option 40?" I think he pissed the other one off, because then he came and sat down and seemed to be on my side, busting the other recruiter out on everything he said that wasn't true. finally he asked me to take the practice ASVAB , and I did. I scored a 75 (I would have done better, but the Ranger came in the room I was in and kept telling me wrong answers on the math part, so it took me a little longer to go back and recheck them after he left) And after he saw my scores he started acting better. But he just doesn't seem to care either way, or give a shit(I thought most recruiters atleast acted like they do).

So my question is, could I ask the guy I talked to, to step down and the let Ranger take care of me? I know this sounds like a stupid question, but it would just be nice to have a recruiter that I feel is atleast pretending to give a shit, because like I have read on this forum many times over "I'm only a civilian once" and after I sign on that line, no one even has to pretend to like me anymore.

And the guy I talked to told me there wasn't any way I could get in as E3, even though I have over 30 college credits, And I'm an EMT. Then the Ranger told me that it would be easy to get E-3, he told me about the checklist and stuff, and the other recruiter just shook his head and said "it's not that easy"

PS: I can't even explain how useful the information on this forum has been, even in just talking to the recruiter, and trying to decifer BS from truth. I can't wait to be able to contribute something usefull, instead of wasting space here.

I am suppose to goto Memphis this week and take the real ASVAB, but I would like to get the squared away before I do that.

Please Disregard this post, I decided it's time to nut up. If he gets me my contract, E3, and maxed out bonus, I don't think it should matter how he acts/treats me.

And you should add that Opt. 40!. I went in as an E-2. You get what you're qualified for. Don't settle for anything less. Getting in as an E-3 doesn't mean you can't get the Opt. 40. Stick to your guns, if you want to that is.

'I started running and dieting, and lost over 70lbs (from 305 to 231lbs)".

I hope that you are still running and dieting. I went to Vietnam at 6 feet - 1"and 220 pounds. (as a former heavy weight wrestler). I spent 3 months humping the boonies and then attended the MACV Recondo School.

When I reported in I was 176 pounds and when I graduated I was 154 pounds. The next nine months were spent doing LRP patrols for the 25th Division and for the Fifth Special Forces Group. After DEROS I received a new set of Class A's at the Oakland Army Depot. I weighed 143 pounds and was in the best shape of my life

My point is to never quit in any aspect of being the best that you can be.

Mike
