Yes I agree! I'm of the opinion that the alleged "peace" prize diminishes the value and meaning of all Nobel awards. I mean Alfred Nobel's main claim to fame was that he found a way to stabilise nitro glycerine the end result of which he named "Dynamite". The consequence of his alleged invention is that peace has been avoided rather spectacularly and the technological development of weapons via the Nobel platform has been astounding. (The latest development is a pyrotechnic "air" bomb which packs a bigger punch than most ballistic nuclear weapons!)
Having said that I believe that the closest thing to a peacemaker in the post-Nobel era was Egypt's Anwar Sadat who was murdered for his trouble by extremists in October of 1986. If anyone actually deserves a "peace" prize, it is Sadat. As for Kofi Anan, what did he actually do apart from sit on his hands and preside over some of the worst acts of genocide in human history. In my opinion he was just the front desk attendant at the UN's socialist shop front. (Is it true that he is now a doorman at a big New York hotel?)
What Al Gore is all about is more insidious than just global warming. It is about repressing the economic development of the 3rd world. It is about buying up tracts of productive farm land and retiring it from production for the purposes earning "carbon credits". (This has actually happened here in Australia recently!) Now the pundits tell us that there is a world food crisis. But we do have our carbon credits, don't we? It would be naïve to assume that starvation is not as effective a weapon as dynamite in the quest for the de-population of the world in order to concentrate money and resources in the hands of a few. (G8?)
Hasn't Gore just announced that he may run for President again? Spring boarding from the global warming platform into a presidential campaign is politically and consummately brilliant. After all he is a champion of the "environment" and the recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize.

ok, looks like i started quite a debate here. I gotta be honest, I don't personally believe in global warming. History has shown that the world goes through cold and hot phases, measured in decades not centuries.
What if everyone is overeacting about global warming?

either way, I applaud Gore's efforts and it is obvious that it is something that he feels strongly about and he has made it a point to raise awareness etc...
I do not agree with his politics and it makes my blood boil when liberals say that he won the election, but you can't take his acheivements away from him. When I started this I was simply trying to say what everyone else has said, the award is tainted.
there were other nominees who's accomplishments fit much better into the realm of actions that promote world peace. Global warming, weather it is real or not, does not fit into that realm. I believe it was given to him because the rest of the world wants to see a democrat in the white house.
...Just my personal opinion. Our president has definately made mistakes and I am not thrilled with any of the presidential candidates, (I think I like Mitt Romney the best as of now), I just think thats what it was for.
I am rambling now because I haven't gotten much sleep and I'm sure this is full of gramatical errors and misspelling.

what I like about starting something that maybe I shouldn't have is being able to sit back and watch the various "tit for tat" fights or logical arguements that may even sway me. The best thing is when it get going after 3 or 4 pages then all of a sudden Hijack.
