(CBS4) MIAMI A Miami burglar was killed trying to leave the scene of the crime when he was crushed by the blades of an industrial ventilation fan.

Detectives say the man, who has a history of burglary crimes in the area, broke into Marantha's Used Clothing Store on Northwest 2nd Court sometime after the shop closed at 7 p.m. Wednesday evening.

Investigators found the security screen around the fan had been forced open, and a pair of burglar bars had been bent back to allow a man to pass through.

They believe as he tried to make his escape through the fan opening in the wall before the store opened Thursday morning, he accidentally kicked the fan's on/off switch into the 'on' position sending the blades into his body. Police are not releasing the man's name until his next kin can be notified.

There will probably be a lawsuit against the store and the manufacturer of the fan.
