I was thinking of just posting 6, just to watch the response it garnished. But out of Respect for the RANGERS on this board, and their unlimited patience with me in the past...7 Jumps(nightime combat equipment).(obviously not including BAC). Would have been more like 22, but from all the fuckin Korpi mineral water from Kosovo and the sandy suck, I caught a kidney stone the size of a corn nut, lodged in my UV junction. I came back from post tour leave, and while I was waiting for my shuttle, something on my left flank and nut just didn't seem right. I passed out in the Airport restroom. Woke up with enough strength to drag myself unto the shuttle, just knowing my appendix had ruptured or something. Got to the billets, fell asleep, woke up the next morning pissing thick, dark blood. I told my ATL I might need to utilize (couldn't remember the name at the time) sick balls?? He elevated me and asked why I felt I had to puss out. I told him I was pissing blood - (he, himself quickly rushed me to the BAS). First week, PA told me, "Drink beer, it will dilate you - and supplement with oxycodone". My TL told me, "For the first and last time in your military career, if I come upstairs and you don't have a beer in your hands, I will smoke you until your uterus falls out". Beer didn't help.
Weeks 2-4, I was on some chemical pill to help break up the stone. No help. Even though my 48 hour quarters was looong gone, my TL and 1Sgt wouldn't allow me to come downstairs for formation. 5 weeks of painkillers, booze, the same fuckin DVD's, and severe hallucinatory dementia until they finally surgically removed it. By the time I completed the BAR, I only had time to complete 2 more jumps. That shit still hurts. It has made my lower back jello, and the army has given me (for my small ass, anyways) almost a lifetime prescription to flexeril due to the chronic back spasms my kidney stress has caused.

ESTs are not a waste of time. you just need to figure out how to use it properly to maximize the value with limited time. it can give you feedback as to where they are shooting, and what fundimentals they are getting wrong.

you can do basic TM and/or crew training. moving targets, distrobution of fires, mag changes, etc. figure out what you have available, and use it wisely.

if you let them fuck off, it can be a waste of time, but it's a great system if used smartly.

Great advice RANGER Kw Driver, and all RANGERS that contributed. Mission successful. I conducted a 4 hour POI before quals today, utilizing the advice that was given to me on this site. Out of 80 soldiers, 77 qualified, first time go's. We had 3 hardcores, and their problems didn't involve the firing of the weapon.. It was FTFI. Failure to care. Failure to want to learn. "Owww...It hurts when it recoils.." Or, my favorite of the day, "How do you put the thingy that holds the bullets into the gun?". Which, (based solely off of the credentials of the personnel who failed to qualify)begs the question, what do they teach at OBC these days? The 3 female officers said that in OBC, females are not required to fire an m16, only an M9. Is that true? Well, Im not giving up on them...We'll be back out there tommorrow. All in all, a good training day..aside from the fact that I got chewed out by an airforce Tsgt. for using the terminology "Shoot motherfuckin terrorists in the motherfuckin face" in my class. He pulled me aside and asked me if I thought that was a little extreme. I asked him if he thought dying needlessly in combat was a little extreme. I think he got the point. Oh, just to pre-empt anyone who cares (doubt anyone does, but just in case) Hakushin = 40/40. Still got it, I guess. Again, thanks guys.

M9 qual = 80/80 first time goes.So now everyone in the unit is familiarized, qualfied, and if not proficient, than at least capable of employing their weapons in combat. Mission complete.
