Subject: ARLINGTON AT CHRISTMAS

Classification: UNCLASSIFIED
Family & friends,

This will be my third Christmas in a row in Iraq, and my last here. And due to getting behind the clock, this will also be your Christmas card from me. I apologize for this not being a cute or thoughtful card, but I find myself thinking of other things again this year, and decided to change direction for the moment.

At this time of year, I can’t help but think about our Nation’s warriors that served for the past four-hundred years to allow freedom’s ring to be heard in our country as well as around the world. I would ask that each of you that intended to send me a card spend the money instead at a Salvation Army location or a Veteran’s center. And if you didn’t intend to send a card, that’s okay, too. Please give up your pocket change for those less fortunate or those in need.

I will spend Christmas again this year as I have spent so many in the past – with the troops. The day will likely be a series of unit visits, a few bites to eat, a trip to a combat support hospital, and a lonely patrol with some of our Nation’s finest. Those of you who have served understand why.

I wish each of you a Merry Christmas, a Happy Hanukkah, a Jumbo Kwanza, and a safe, blessed new year. Please see the below links for a heartwarming story reflective of the meaning of this season. And then please do something for those less fortunate or those who have served.

Jeff
