Thank you Rangers, others..

SITREP:

I went to the recruiter to get taped this morning. I'm still at 26% (They want me to be 24%)
My wife taped me at 22%, but these guys are so friggen paranoid about me being bounced out of the MEPS by this old guy they refer to as "Doc" who apparently tapes hard on his grumpy days, which are most every day so they say.. that they tape me very loosely and they go around the biggest part of my 'handles', even though the reg says to go straight around the navel (which is on the very upper part of my handles).
But, even though I was feeling a little discouraged on the way home, I decided I just have to work harder.
So I punished myself today.. 6 miles on the treadmill (total time 54:52), so approximately 9 minute miles.
And it wasn't even hard, I just got really bored around 45 minutes into it.

I know it's not as hard as running outside (which is what I normally do) but I'm trying to work on my speed and distance.

Then I lifted weights for an hour, did some crunches and neck workout.
I came home, drank a smoothie and then put on my old combat boots and marched for four miles to get my feet ready for wearing boots.
(I got blistered up pretty good, which was my intent so that they will toughen up and calous over.)

I'm going to give my legs a rest tomorrow and really punish my abs with crunches, situps and obliques.

Ulfhedin: You might not even recognize Panama City nowadays, they rebuilt the Hathaway bridge (2 lanes each way) including a new flyover to Thomas Drive, Condo's sprang up everywhere, housing/rent skyrocketed due to the falsely inflated Real Estate market (speculative investors flipping condos etc..). Tyndall got a new perimeter gate to withstand vehicle impacts, Pass and ID (which as you know used to be across from Customer Service in the MPF) got it's own building across from the first gate.. Beacon Beach housing area (the one's that were facing Hwy 98 on the right side if you are coming onto Tyndall from the DuPont bridge, were completely razed, now they made an entrance for delivery trucks to stop and be searched/inspected prior to entry onto the base.. Tyndall has really gotten a much needed face-lift.
I miss it! (mainly the fishing)

It's a direct feed into the warrant ranks, and with your background, age, etc. that's where I would go if I were you. Of course, the Army promotion system (if you're not familiar with it) is notoriously hard on anything admin at the E-5 and especially the E-6 level.

PM me once your recruiter lays out your options, if you've got admin questions.

Welcome to the site.
Thanks for your input, however, I don't even know what a Warrant Officer is! Aren't they referred to as "Mr." or "Ms.".. that would feel too much like a civilian. Do they wear a uniform? Pardon my ignorance, I've heard the term Warrant Officer, but don't really know anything about them.

A Warrant Officer is usually a prior enlisted Soldier who is in-between enlisted and officer. They are technical specialists - meaning they still work in their career field, however they are the "know everything" kinda guy within that field. They bridge the gap between the enlisted ranks and officer ranks. Enlisted knowledge and skill, and officer command/leadership responsibility. Now that I think about it, it's hard to describe. Maybe someone else will take a stab at it.

If you desire a different MOS - go for that and stick to your guns with your recruiter. But, I have a feeling that the blue to green program (if that's what you're entering under) will only allow you to enter your previous career field. Since you've had a long break in service, you might not even qualify for that anymore - I don't know. If your recruiter is taping you, I assume you're not going back through basic training or anything.

Since you're also a previous SF in the Air Force, you might be able to become a MP. Although, they're highly deployed nowadays, almost as much as Infantry. Particularly as one of our main tasks in Iraq is standing up their police/security forces.

Good luck, let me know if you have any more questions.

Aha, that helps to explain it.

As you suspected, my Break In Service was too long to qualify for Blue to Green.
Also, I believe you may have me confused with Ulfhedin who was an SP in the AF. I was a Personnelist (3S0X1).

Thanks for the input.

I don't think the Army is too worried, you Army Air Corps transfers are just coming back to where you belong. :D :D :D

Right. Can't keep track of all the new dudes. I'm admin too, so if that's where you end up - good luck to ya.

Wouldn't want a bumbling oaf like me out there on the battlefield.
