DQ'd.. thanks for all the help. (Edit: I'm a DEP, 25c now)
Got 96 on ASVAB, 1 1 1 1 1 1 or whatever on physical.. failed the colorblind test.... miserably.
The recruiter keeps telling me that he's 'got somebody working on getting me a spot in the Rangers' and that I'll 'find out if it works out when I get down to MEPS' and 'you can always say no to whatever jobs they offer' - technically true I'm sure, but I'm not going down there unless I know exactly what job I want.
Nobody's mentioned anything about a waiver; so, I'm about 99% sure the recruiter is bullshitting me to get me down to MEPS so that I'll have to pick a job and sign. I asked for a list of jobs that I'd qualify for.. he gave me 4:
91w - medic
88m - truck driver
25c - radio operator
92w - water treatment
Really not interested in any of these, so tomorrow I'm gonna tell him I'm through and to forget going down to MEPS on thursday like he wants. I realise I'm out for any special forces anywhere, but I'm gonna go talk to the marines and navy to see what's available.
Anyway, I really appreciate all the info that's on this site, it's really helped me in dealing with the recruiters. If you have any comments, I'll keep reading these forums just because Rangers kick ass and this is one of the best forums I've ever had the opportunity to read.

Shit boy... go medic. While you won't go airborne you may still have a shot as RS later on. Sheesh. Don't throw in the towel so early into the fight. You want it then you have to earn it!

JayD you might be able to do that as a 25C also. Either one could also help you out with a career when you decide to get out of Army.Darksaga wrote:Shit boy... go medic. I read that thread.. am I retarded, or is it saying that failing the color blindness test means I'll never be a Ranger?
I'm not saying I'm refusing to serve my country if I'm not a Ranger. I'm saying that the jobs they offered me in the Army are not ones I'm interested in doing. I'll be proud to serve somewhere.SnafuRacer wrote:So you wanted to be a Ranger for the kicks and girls? or you wanted to serve your country?
If you can't qualify for Opt 40, can't you do your patriotic duty in another MOS? or will you go through the rest of your life talking about how "you coulda been a Ranger but failed the color vision test..............!!!!"

No one needs to give you shit for not wanting the four jobs they offered you. It is true that if you are colorblind, you will not see any operator time, but there is a lot of other stuff to do than kicking in doors. Besides the fact that kicking in doors gets you literally nowhere in the civilian world, unless you get fortunate at the right time and place as some of us here did. However, if you talk to some of the other services, you will find that they have a lot of technical skills that are needed for which you could surely qualify. It is your life and if you aren't happy with the offers then don't take them.

Well... I went down to MEPS this morning. The councilor said Ranger was no way in hell as far as joining is concerned. However, as a radio operator the guy said I could volunteer to be deployed with special forces, and I would go through all of the training that the spec ops guys go through (I guess there's some kind of need for the radio operator to be able to keep up with everybody he's deployed with
).
So, I got a slot for 25c and I'm shipping out Nov 28th. Going in as an EO3 and I signed a 4 year contract. I got the max signing bonus(20k), plus 68k for college when I get out. Going to Jackson for basic, then on to Gordon for AIT.
Yea, I'm a DEP now.
