The only time I even saw a DS in AIT was for breifings or CTT, CLS, or other similar training. By the time we left AIT most of the guys who started as E-1 were PFCs, some PFC were specialist, and I've got a couple buddies who went to PLDC or got SGT when they got to their unit.
