Hopefull Ranger (hopefully), need some advice...

Post by ggamecrazy »

I have a rather complicated case, I am a green card holder(not a citizen) and a hopefull ranger. I am curently 17 and going into my senior year of high school. I have taken the Asvab and have accomplished a 82 avereage score and a GT of 117. I have agreed on a contract putting me in the 82nd. on the phsysical side i run track and should break 10 mins for the 2 mile this year, with some good old fashioned hard work. I should be getting my citizenship late next year around when i will ship out(20060712) . However, i might not. My question is if you were in my shoes and with my goal, how would you aproach this problem? I have been told that the 82nd is a great pitstop prior to going SF or ranger, and while in the army citizenship should be achieved a lot easier. I will not let this minor bump deter me, however i fear that i might be deployed in some far off country before i become a ranger.

Thank you, in advance

Since you enlisted, you obviously have a green card.

You did well in my opinion by choosing the 82d. You will have some great opportunites there. (I'm partial, look at my avatar)

Since you aren't a citizen, you can't serve in Ranger Battalion or any SOF unit. THIS DOES NOT MEAN YOU CAN'T ATTEND RANGER SCHOOL!

You will be afford the chance to go while in the 82d, trust me.

Once you have your citizenship, and YOUR TAB , you may submit a 4187 or reenlist for reassignment to the 75th Ranger Regiment if you desire to at that time.

There is no solid timeframe for this. It will be on you and your motivation to do these 2 things:

1) Attain US Citizenship

2) Attend and graduate from The US Army Ranger School

Good Luck.

Curious, are there any cases where you need a security clearance to have an airborne infantry MOS without an option 40? (I'll STFU now) :?

I'm not the kind the gets in to others business, but come on dude, this post is 3 years old......Not to be an asshole..But there is something called google..

For constructive criticism, I would recommend you ask your recruiter or the consular at MEP’s and go over every MOS. That is what I will do.

2DenY, leave the on-the-spot corrections to people with 'Ranger' under their name.

And of course, including SFC hit_it.

If we want to get technical 2DenY we could put you on notice for attacking a board member - namely yourself as a (possible) asshole. But I'm not interested in slamming you young man. RTO is correct though - stay out of our lane 2DenY. Read more, post less.

Not entirely. Usually those 11B's who are assigned to the Operations OR Intelligence sections (S-3,S-2) of their unit will be made to submit a request for a clearance.

All Senior NCO's will have a clearance beyond the rank of SFC (E-7).
