The scroll worn by the 1st, 3rd and 4th Ranger Batts in WW2 where designed by SGT. Anthony Rada in late 1942. This scroll was never officially authorized by the Army, which lead to the Rangers having their Battalion scrolls made locally. 6th Ranger Battalion also wore the scroll.

1st Battalion scroll of WW2.
On 26 July 1943 an unknown officer of 2nd Ranger Battalion designed the "Diamond Patch" or what was refered to as the "Blue Sunoco", because it resembled the symbol of the Sunoco Oil Co.. Both 2nd and 5th Ranger Battalions wore this patch until the summer of 1945 when they too adobted the scroll of the other Battalions.
