In a related story, due to the "shutdown," families are not getting their death benefit from the
government. Fisher House has agreed to loan the DoD the funds; to be repaid later.

In the same incident, a very brave and dedicated Ranger from 3d Ranger Battalion has become famous for his discipline as he salutes his commander despite his wounds:

Thanks Ranger Vyce for bringing this to our attention.

My deepest sympathy to the families, friends and fellow comrades of the soldiers who lost their lives or who were injured . I held my breath for almost 4 months while my son was deployed. I pray for all who have suffered a loss and a special thanks to God that my son was brought home from this deployment in good health. The loss has weighed very heavily on our family. If there is anything that I can do please advise. lbrnnurse

Today I attended the funeral service for SGT Hawkins. I would guess there were several hundred
Rangers from all eras. The Chief of Staff and Secretary of the Army presented the flag to the family. As usual "The Old Guard" performed with great dignity. I was proud to be part of the sad event. RLTW!
