SITREP- Kenny

Post by Arch51 »

Rangers, in less than a month I ship out to the Army to begin the pipeline of becoming a Ranger. I have gained a lot of knowledge as well as new friends from being a mentee on ArmyRanger.com. Anyone working towards becoming a member of the 75th Ranger Regiment will benefit from being a mentee on this site. This Friday will be my last day working at Cookout. This will give me 3 whole weeks to further prepare myself. To be more specific on my preparation, I am utilizing Team Room Training for PT, studying the Ranger Handbook, looking back over my assignments on the site, etc. I truly feel I have a leg up because of this site and can't wait to get things rolling.

Next SITREP will be uploaded right before I ship out.

Sounds like you are staying focused. Remember, give 100% in everything that you do. These are not just words, but a life style that will set you apart from the other troopers.

Rangers, my ship date has been postponed to Thursday. I leave for hotel tomorrow so I thought I'd go ahead and post my pre-ship SITREP now. Since my last post I've been saying my goodbyes to friends and family, along with PT and learning things I will have to learn in OSUT(Creeds, Army Values, General Orders, etc.) ahead of time. I'm ready to start my journey and will be posting a SITREP as soon as I have the opportunity to. From what I understand the Army is always changing and evolving, so if anyone has questions regarding OSUT for an Infantryman feel free to PM me and I will answer those questions on my next SITREP which at the latest will be posted around the end of December.

SITREP
Rangers, I am on HBL as of now. I return January 4th for my last week of OSUT. My last APFT score was 297, 69 push-ups, 80 sit-ups, 11:19 2-mile run(Was definitely less than 2 miles). I had some trouble with marksmanship in the beginning but managed to get 36/40 on qualifications day. I'm very grateful to be apart of this great site, as expected I had a leg up over everyone else so far in my Army career because of it. My favorite part of OSUT was either shooting Machine Guns (M249 SAW and M240B) or working with the AN/PRC 117F in the the communications class. FTX was fun besides the cold rainy nights. I’m enjoying my break and will be ready to get the ball rolling for Airborne School and RASP.

5 Tips for DEPS

1. List of things you might want to already know when arriving at Infantry OSUT:
Soldier's Creed
Infantryman's Creed
General Orders
Army Song
Rank Structure

2. For APFT, get behind a heavy person in line for sit ups so that you have stable positioning.

3. When doing anything try to be first. When I was in the back of the line for a graded event like marksmanship qualification, I would sit there and get anxious about doing well. Whenever I was first guy up I didn't have time to think I just did, therefore for I performed better.

4. DO NOT BRING CONTRABAND! We had guys get Article 15 in Blue phase for having phones.

5. Make sure you complete everything on the task list before shipping. Don't just do it once to complete it but actually be proficient with the task a lot of them ended up coming in handy for me. On the first day of FTX, our Drill Sergeants gave us a quick rundown on how to set up a poncho hooch in case it rained. We weren't really taught how we just watched him quickly make one. That night it started pouring and our Platoon scrambled back to our Patrol Base trying to learn how to set up a poncho hooch on the fly. I already knew the gist to it thanks to the “Five Mentees Report Here” thread so me and my battle buddy were able to set it up and take shelter quickly.

In conclusion BCT/AIT/OSUT isn’t hard at all, it’s just tedious so try to make the most of it.

Rangers, this morning I graduated Infantry OSUT. I report to Airborne Hold on January 18th. Today and yesterday I got to hang out with Rednovember and my family on Day pass. I picked up the Ranger Standards Blue Book and RASP 1 Candidate Study Guide at the UPS store. Rednovember and I got a good dose of history at the National Infantrymen Museum about Ranger Ralph Puckett, Honorary Colonel of the 75th Ranger Regiment from 1996-2008. This last week my PT was limited to calisthenics in the bay, now I can go outside to run, and lift at the gym. Starting now I will be utilizing the RAW program in my RASP 1 Candidate Study Guide for PT. I hope all is well with everyone and will post again soon.

Rangers, I am scheduled to start Airborne School this coming Friday. I'm so ready to be not stuck on Sand Hill anymore. We have mandatory PT at 1500 in Airborne hold now which is running, calisthenics, and buddy carries. I missed a lot of them last week because I was stuck on details. Then during free time I'll do squats or dead lifts at the gym. I have 2 hour CQ shifts, during that time I study from my Blue Book or RASP Study Guide. Last CQ all of us were Option 40 or 18x so we challenged ourselves to a game of Uno, the winner gets to smoke the losers. When I won I have everyone doing monkey fuckers. Last Wednesday I had a little fall down climbing rope at the track and kinda hurt my head a day before our APFT, thankfully I didn't get a concussion. I feel recovered now and ready for whats next to come.

That's awesome. Just make sure you don't call it that to too many people. I think it's one of those phrases that is frowned upon these days 8)

Make sure that hand is 100% and you are good if you fell. Don't start RASP hurt or injured it will only get worse in those first 4 weeks.
