Rangers,
Monday my group starts testing for the first module of our training. My last practical exercise I did very well, with over 90% on all of my reports and missing only one non-report performance measure. I can test out of this module as soon as 20171127, so if all goes well, after the next two weeks I'll be over the hill.

We took another PT test this tuesday. I scored 82 pushups, 87 situps, and a 12:30 2-mile. I've been PT'ing every morning, going to the gym every night, swimming every saturday, and every sunday either rucking or running a 5 mile. Between that and eating far more healthy, I both look and feel the best I ever have. If you take advantage of it, the Army really does have some amazing opportunities. Speaking of which, once we come back from HBL, we have the opportunity to test for the GAFPB (German Armed Forces Proficiency Badge). There is a group of us who are all going to do it together.

Especially after the next two weeks, we're all really just looking forward to HBL. The day I fly home, it will have been 6 months exactly since I've seen my girlfriend, and aside from Family Day at Basic, just as long for my family. The homesickness really sets in here, but it also motivates you to be the best Soldier you can be and make your family proud when you go home.

I don't think I've mentioned it yet, but only one 35M Option 40 has made it from the start of AIT through RASP in the last 2 to 3 years, as my Platoon Sergeant told us. There's only two of us in this class, but we're looking to break that trend. We also had an opportunity to meet with the Ranger liasion two weeks ago or so. It sounds like the 35M progression in the MIB is incredibly fast-paced, putting you through some of the top schools within a couple years.

The one disappointing thing is we aren't allowed to PT with the Ranger liaision. He does release runs every Monday, and every other thursday he does ruck marches. It's not a lot, but it would sure beat our normal PT.

Good to hear, sounds like you are doing the right things with your off duty time and working hard. Also good to hear that you are seeing the opportunities both now and in the future as far as what you are doing. Go get it.

Enjoy leave, but keep it under control and don't waste what you have done so far doing something stupid. After 6 months away, you are going to feel like an alien among your friends back home- in a good way, they haven't done shit.

I'll echo Ranger IntelToad here on leave... Going home was never the same as much as I tried to make it so. This includes women. Set the bar low for home and keep it high for the career you chose. Don't forget what you set first before you ever left...

Also, who cares if 1 person did it or 1,000. You're doing it. So do it. I'm not sure why you put that piece of information in. As a brag or a worry. Fuck it either way :)

You're in a great place right now. Fit, focused, and ready to go. Keep on keepin' on. Also, home is where you make it. 2x Joe Dirt quotes back to back? Sometimes even I am amazed at how awesome I am.

Ranger IntelToad,

The Sergeants have been telling us the same thing. I already know I won't fit in with some people from home because I can't stand the way they talk. The Army has a much more professional way of making people talk. I've never done any drugs and never been a big drinker, so I don't plan on starting HBL. 😁

Roger, Ranger Disinfertention. The Army always comes first, absolutely.

I don't really know why I included that information. Not as a brag or as a worry, more as a statement. Regardless of how it is now, that doesn't affect me putting out 100% to achieve that goal.

Both of those are awesome quotes... my dad always used both of them constantly back home 😁

Rangers,
Just a quick update for today. We've been doing our final interrogations for the last two weeks and today I tested out our first opportunity and earned the interrogations certification. This is the end of unclassified content, so I won't be able to talk anymore about school, but there's still lots of stuff to learn about the other parts of my job other than interrogations. That, and hundreds of reports... 😁

Ranger Disinfertention,

It is going... haha. Our new classes are on incredibly interesting topics, so once we get past all the boring setup items, it will be quite the time. Other than that, we are still just practicing for the GAFPB after HBL and working out, and that's about it. We're all more anxious than ever to go home on HBL.

We took another PT test this week, and my scores were almost exactly the same - 83 PU/87 SU/12:28 2M.

There is not much else to report otherwise, Ranger Disinfertention. 😁

Ranger Disinfertention,
Actually, I lied. As soon as I posted, I remembered something.

We did do training on the Blended Retirement System, the new system the Army is switching to next year that we can either opt in to or choose to remain on high-3. They do all sorts of neat stuff like let you pay into the TSP, automatically contribute 1% of your base pay, will match you up to 5%, and you can opt to take half your retirement as a lump sum. It's less money overall as a lump sum, but long story short if I ended up going 20 years, the BRS gives a lot more flexibility.

Not the most interesting stuff, but I'd argue important. Even if I don't go career, the TSP can roll over into a 401(k), so better to start now, haha.
