Rangers,

As promised here is a SITREP. Im going into week six of RASP. So far this course is everything I expected it to be. Challenging PT, professional cadre, and with the exception of a few the formation of a group of men I would be proud to serve with and call my peers.

The intent of me getting an option 40 was to serve with the best and to serve my country to the maximum extent possible. Another reason for going this route was to test myself; I wanted to see what I was really made of, anything hard I've ever done be it a trying out for a sports team or any other challenging endeavor I feel like I did for selfish reasons. Not really selfish in the traditional sense of the word, but selfish due to the fact that the outcome was something that would bring personal gain. Joining the army as I'm sure y'all know doesn't bring financial wealth or much in the way of personal freedom when compared to the civilian world. Joining the military in my opinion should be done solely out of a desire to serve the American people, to protect those who can't or won't protect themselves. RASP will bring to light whether or not those values that drove all of us to serve are true. Are you really, one hundred percent, committed to giving your life to the protection of this country? RASP will answer that for you if only for insight into the lifestyle you'll enter into upon completion of the course. In the grand scheme of things I haven't done shit, and when I graduate I still won't have done shit, I'll be right back to the bottom of the totem pole looking up at the giants hoping one day to fill their shoes. This course will not dictate to what extent I'm able to keep my promise to the American people, but my actions from here forward will. I do feel like whatever happens to me from here, wherever I may end up, that I will know without a doubt that I will give my all in the service of this country. To the DEPs who may be reading this is your desire to join Regiment a desire built on a willingness to serve or one based on personal glorification? I'll leave it to y'all to try and answer that for yourself, but if you cant figure it out on your own the hardships endured in RASP will.

About the course itself; the structure of phase one has been changed greatly, that being said, phase one still sucks, there is still a Cole Range, and there is still a great attrition rate despite what some might say. I'm waiting on word to see if I can elaborate a bit on what exactly these changes are, but until then I'm going to have to leave y'all hanging a bit.

Rangers, every bit of advice and help you have given me leading up to now is greatly appreciated and the knowledge gained through my activity on this website prepared me immensely for every step of the pipeline.

Joel

Rangers,

Quick SITREP. This morning during PT we were doing the 8 foot walls like you'd do in the RPAT and I'm pretty sure I tore my rotator cuff. I talked to the cadre about it and I'm going to the medic tomorrow morning. Hopefully it's something less significant than that, but right now there is a dent in my left shoulder that isn't present in the other and doing any movement other than letting my arm hang hurts like hell. I'll give an update tomorrow afternoon.

Rangers,

Good news. The orthopedist wasn't in today. Talked to one of the medics from the clinic. He did a couple tests on my shoulder and determined it wasn't a rotator cuff tear, said I most likely partially tore one of the other small muscles or tendons in my shoulder and gave me a couple exercises I could do to strengthen the surrounding muscles. I've just got to ice it whenever possible and try to limit strain on it and then head back after graduation to get it evaluated further.
