SITREP - Abe

Post by Peakbagger »

Rangers,

I am two weeks out from shipping and feeling highly motivated. I recently ran a 5 miler in 34:55. Despite high spirits, my lack of an option 40 is keeping me up at night. I understand that it is my fault for signing a contract prematurely, but I can't help myself from worrying if I will even get an opportunity to go to selection.

On other introductions I have noticed mention of a "Ranger task list." Did I miss something or is that specifically for option 40 holders? If so is there something else I should be doing/studying beyond history, creed, and PT?

At the MEPS hotel. I'm scheduled for two weeks in reception battalion before OSUT. Not very excited for that, but nevertheless feeling ready to earn this.

Keep that attitude. You'll need it!

Remember Ranger Jim's and Ranger Cam's advice on announcing/asking about getting to RASP. You'll need to adult this... Don't just ask day 1. There will be a time to ask. Be patient for it but don't wait until graduation.

Rangers,

I am currently on family weekend. I am happy to report that I have obtained a RASP slot during my time here in BCT. The Ranger liason showed up around week 5 and in week 7 first sergeant pulled us aside to tell us (5 in total) we had picked up opt40s.

Basic has been physically easy, but mentally difficult for me. There are so many shitbags in my platoon. About 10 of us do all the cleaning and duties, while everybody else fucks off. I have also been platoon guide for the last 3 weeks which mostly consists of micromanaging the platoon all day, everyday.

My first APFT I scored a 245. The pushups really hit me hard (chest touches floor for count), but I was also pretty sick. The pushups I was doing prior to shipping were not in proper form. My advice to future soldiers on pushups would be to always touch your chest to the ground, because your grader is probably going to be a dick and not count your reps unless it is overwhelmingly obvious that you broke 90 degrees.

APFT3:
Pushups: 63
Situps: 79
2-Mile: 12:10
289/300

Rangers,
I've been in airborne hold the past two weeks and leave tomorrow for Airborne School!

Nothing really changed in the AIT portion of OSUT. Drill Sgt's are still dicks and treat you no differently than they did in BCT. I don't really feel like an Infantryman, the training barely scratches the surface and is really a very basic introduction to doctrinal infantry techniques and procedures. This is what most people don't realize about basic training, that you don't graduate a trained killer.

It feels great to be leaving Sand Hill and getting one step closer to RASP. I am continuing to PT as best I can, but at this point I feel ready to start RASP and get it done with.

Abe, by now you should be ready to complete ground week. BAC is a gentleman's course; RASP is not. Continue to run and PT on your own. Never, never quit!

Rangers,
I have completed airborne school and graduated RASP. I've been assigned to 3/75, but unfortunately I'll be in post rasp for awhile due to security hold.

Pre-RASP was the worst part of my time here. I spent 7 weeks getting smoked for other peoples mistakes and standing on the rocks.

RASP was fine. Things get done alot faster and training is more efficent. Cole Range obviously sucked, but is nothing you cant achieve if you are commited to becoming a ranger. Our class (1-18) started with 97 and graduated 39.

I am hoping that I get my clearance and move over to 3rd batt soon, but they also send post RASP guys to SURT then Ranger School if they are projected to be here awhile.

Congratulations on finishing RASP. Hopefully the security hold doesn't last too long! There are a few other members on this site who were recently assigned to 3/75. Look out for them once you get there.
