Have you met any of the other Mentees in pre-RASP? Never, never quit!

No, not really Ranger Jim. I'm in a groupchat with IvoryCharlie and other Mentees(not any others at PreRasp). I've been sticking with a bunch of guys who are committed though, we do our PT, study, and stay out of trouble. We want this more than anything. We're starting RASP Monday and we're excited, we know it's going to suck, we've embraced it but mind over matter. I'm going to keep a positive attitude the whole time and know that this is just preparing me for whatever I may encounter in the Regiment, and it's just making me stronger.

Ranger Jim, well, we're down to 126/165 after Week 1. So far, I love RASP and the challenge it has presented itself to me. Although I wasn't prepared physically as I could have been before starting, I haven't quit. I've been pushing myself and my body has adjusted to the workload quickly. I am getting stronger. IvoryCharlie is doing very well as he knows all the ropes already as he been through this before, he's killing it. Next week is Cole Range and I'm very excited for this next test.

Just finished Ground Week

Post by romaniak96 »

Ranger Jim, I messed up. I was going strong and I was honestly elated at the time cause I knew in my head I was going to make it. Then came the 3rd iteration of Land Nav and this time we didn't get an hour of sleep that night. We were all exhausted and falling asleep standing. Time begins, I go to the starting point, move up 100 meters and plot my points. At that point I should have got up and started walking, knowing it wouldn't end well if i stayed down in the prone too long. I saw guys around me immobile and I just closed my eyes for one second and I was out. Next thing I know, the high beams are behind me and one of the cadre is asking for my name tape. The other guys woke up in time but I didn't. I messed up. I continued Land Nav and after the iteration was over, my name was called and I was told I was dropped along with 2 others that were caught sleeping. At first, I was devastated. Everything I was working towards, now gone. Just one stupid mistake, one dumb decision to close my eyes ended up being so catastrophic . As I'm sitting here writing this I'm also realizing how this can transcend to the battlefield with graver consequences, people die cause of mistakes like mine. This was really just a lesson for me. Although I didn't make it all the way through, I did grow mentally and physically from Cole Range and I have loved this whole process so far. Hopefully, I do get the option to recycle (I'll find out Tuesday) but either way I've come out of this a better man. I'll let you know what happens and thank you for everything that this website has offered me, I truly appreciate it.

Ranger Jim,

Right now, I'm still in PreRasp but I am moving to WorldWide tomorrow. Since i fell asleep, it's an integrity violation and you aren't offered a chance to recycle. I'll be back one day stronger, faster, and smarter.

Fort Bragg, NC, XVIII Airborne Corps
Sorry for not updating my whereabouts but I guess the time is now. Since the new year i just been fired up, extremely motivated. PTing twice a day, eating clean. Rucking 11 minute miles w/ a 45 lb pack dry for 6 miles...once i get to 9 minute miles, i'll increase the distance and the weight. Ran 6 miles in 39 minutes today. Swimming a lot. Calisthenics w/ added weights. Just trying get after it every day, live life to the fullest, and be the best person I can be. This life is a journey and I'm just letting God handle anything out of my control. Whatever opportunities He puts in front of me, I'll take. Anyway, I'm about to go for a swim. I'll keep you guys updated on anything special.

I applaud your coming back and updating us, from last year as well. So many that end up going somewhere else just completely drop off the map and never come back here with any updates or to accept responsibility for whatever caused them to go elsewhere.

You certainly have earned my respect and I wish you the best in your future endeavors.
