SITREP- Bronco

Post by Bronco »

Rangers,

I leave for the hotel Monday morning and will arrive at Benning sometime Tuesday.

I'd just like to thank all the Rangers on the forum, and PerryB, for helping us wannabe's out. I would have never enlisted straight out of high school if I hadn't come across this site. This forum has truly impacted my life and for the better.

I feel well prepared for the journey that lies ahead. However, I will not be complacent, especially when it comes to push-ups.

I'll try to post sitreps whenever possible and I will not let my opt. 40 go to waste.

Get it done Bronco. You know this can easily be accomplished as long as you give 110% and never quit. I have faith in you young man.

You are to be commended for all the work you've done here to assist the site with these newbs.

Thank you. I truly wish you the best out there.

Rangers, I have just completed basic training and am on my two day pass. My APFT score currently is a 259; 41 push-ups, 84 sit-ups, and 11:21 2 mile. I still have a lot of room for improvement and need to be pushing myself harder if I want to make it through RASP.

Yes you do. Those push-ups need serious work. Don't fuck around on pass and get in trouble. The road is still long for you. Work harder. Work faster. Work more quicklier.

Good Sitrep, use your off time to work on your PT, it will pay off later. Always give 100% on everything.

Rangers,

I graduated from OSUT about a week ago and arrived at Airborne school last Thursday.

I didn't think OSUT was very difficult physically, it was just hard adjusting to the new lifestyle and being away from home.

For guys who haven't shipped yet here's the layout for OSUT:

Red Phase: This is the first 3 weeks of basic training. Your Drill Sergeants will be around 24/7 and yell a lot. During Red Phase we did land nav, completed the obstacle course, the confidence course, and Eagle Tower. Everyone hates Red Phase; just keep a positive attitude and tell yourself it will eventually come to an end.

White Phase: During White Phase all you do is go to the shooting range. You'll wake up in the morning and conduct PT. Then you'll hurry up, eat and stage all your gear outside and wait for transportation to come pick you up. You'll be at the range till at least, 2pm almost everyday for 3 weeks so get used to it. Your Drill Sergeants will tell you the basics and then you'll qualify with iron sights and CCO's. The minimum is 23 out of a possible 40 targets. Just listen and you'll do fine. After you qualify with your M4, you'll learn how to shoot from behind barriers in different positions. Don't get lazy during White Phase and get used to standing around all day.

Blue Phase: In Blue Phase you do more shooting, but you learn how to move and communicate as a team. You'll learn how to move in teams of two and four. At the end of Blue Phase you'll do urban ops. You mainly use blanks and on the last day you use chalk rounds and get to clear a house that your Drill Sergeants are in.

AIT: This period of training goes by fast and you are in the fuels for most of it. You'll learn how to set up an ORP, travel in the woods with your squad, react to contact, etc. A couple weeks into AIT you'll go and complete FTX. During FTX you basically go out and carry out missions and set up ORP's. You ruck around everywhere and you don't get much sleep. You're in the field for 5 days and 4 nights. It's honestly not that bad and goes by pretty quick. By this time in training you'll be tired and frustrated, but stay focused on the task at hand.

I don't start Airborne until Wednesday because of the holiday. We have our PT test that day as well. I'm a bit worried about it because my push-up score isn't very high and I can only blame myself. I'll provide another by Thursday.
