Have you considered applying for Ranger School as a Guardsman? If you are an E-4 or higher, you are going to have to go to Ranger training anyhow. Never, never quit!

I don't have any good answers for you other than you'll have to hook and jab to get there.

I left a guard LRS unit and had to take an unassigned enlistment, then work it at the 30th AG. I got what I wanted, but that was in '92.

I got an option 40 from the NY National Guard back in '84. Guess in the last 30 + years things have changed... I was 11B, went to OCS, got commission and then resigned commission to get the opt 40. had to push hard though. For some reason the Guard didn't want to give up a cherry O.

Best decision I ever made.

Have you tried calling the Regimental Recruiting Office (706-545-5124) directly? I had to reenlist to get a RIP slot which might be the course of action you have to take, so maybe try contacting your reenlistment NCO as well. Good luck, never quit!

Talking to the Liaisons while at Airborne might be your best bet, although depending how busy they are you might not get much time to chat. I don't know if the recruiters have a physical office for non-Regimental personnel to visit but it might be something to look into as well while your down at Benning. Be sure to absolutely destroy your Airborne PT test because your score may end up being a deciding factor on whether or not Regiment takes you seriously. Good luck at Airborne School, it's generally pretty fun.
