IIRC we had a guy in 151 LRS who was 51 and went, and Passed.

This was in the 86-88 time frame IIRC

SFC Twomey had a long break in service before coming back in as an artilleryman in 319th FA.
He turned 50 two weeks after graduating.
Unfortunately, going through Hooah School took a toll on him. Within about two years, he was permanent SDNCO at Division HQ.

To avoid confusion and since no one saw this original thread from last year (including me) SMA Morrell had officially held that distinction until CSM Owens went through I believe either in 1985 or 1986 time frame. CRS moment. Toomey still holds the record at 49 in 1987.

In honor of Major Whyte.

Ranger Kilted Heathen is an old RI and user on this site. I could see him giving the SMA a no-go.

I don't know about no-gos, but my TAC officer when I went in 78 told he kicked Morrell in the back of the head in the POW compound and told us where to look for the scar when we got back to battalion.

I'm not too proud to say that this young PFC didn't have the balls to walk into the CSM's office and ask to see the scar!

I can still hear him.....

I went through last year (class 10-05/01-06/02-06) with a 40-something year old gun-bunny Major and a 43-year old fuckin CHAPLAIN. Both made it, albeit with almost as much difficulty as I had.

In my class there was a National Guard Major that went through. He was in his mid 40s. I remember the RIs had him in front of 1st PT formation. The RI asked him "Why are you here, to learn leadership? He replied "No, I already know how to lead, I am just here to set an example for other officers regardless of age."

He passed.

There was a 40-something 1SG in class 9-92, who graduated in 10-92. He was pretty much burnt toast physically after RAP and Darby, since he was the obvious choice for student PSG, and he got fucked with - hard. I can't remember his name, but I do recall that by the time we got to Florida, he was giving away chow to anyone who would help him carry his shit, so he could walk with and empty ruck and not feel like a shitbag, and not get peered. But he was shit-hot on patrols and did more than his fair share. I suspect it took quite a toll on him, as he looked like a Bataan survivor by the time we got back to Benning.
