Introduction - Thaddeus

Post by thaddeus »

Hello Everybody, my name is Thaddeus and I am 17. I've grown up in a military family and I have always known that I would take a similar path. Somewhere along the line I discovered the Army Rangers and I have been obsessed ever since. I have come to this site quite a bit over the past two years so I can stay knowledgeable on the pipeline and everything surrounding obtaining the tan beret. I recently decided I would make the move to create an account since I am now 17 and can contact a recruiter. My intentions are to soak up as much information as I can and better prepare myself for the pipeline. I am looking forward to being a part of this community and I appreciate any advice that may help me on my journey.

Thank you for your time and the access to the endless information this site has to offer.

Hey Thaddeus,

What is your username in reference to? You don't have to answer it, just wondering.

Glad to have you here. How did you learn about either this website or the unit that it attempts to represent?

Do you play any sports? How is school going? Why do you want to join the military instead of going to college or tech school?

Thanks for the reply Ranger Disinfertention. My username is just my actual first name. I learned about the 75th Ranger Regiment from my family. I come from a big Army family so I grew up hearing about special forces, rangers, etc. I did wrestle for my school. However, it is currently the off season and I am debating on whether on not I should return or if I should just focus on specialized training for the pipeline (which is something I plan on looking into as I am not sure where to start.) School is going quite well, although the covid-19 outbreak was definitely a challenge and was a little difficult to adapt to, I managed to finish out the school year strong. I have wanted to join the military since I was very little. I have always looked up to my family members who have served and I slowly just started to become obsessed. As cliche as this may sound, it has evolved into an overwhelming need to serve and make my family proud as well as to prove to myself that I have what it takes. Becoming a Ranger is so appealing to me because it guarantees me the opportunity to be around some of the best war fighters in the world and actually make a difference. I have always wanted something more, something that I can look back on when i'm older, something that can never be taken away from me. Sorry for the extended response, I just wanted to show that I am thankful to be here.

Do better at using proper punctuation. I acknowledge that this can be challenging on hand held devices and that you cannot edit in this forum.

Without knowing much about you, I would say to do school stuff, sports, etc. first. Chances are you'll never get to participate in that type of stuff ever again. Don't dismiss it without some heavy consideration and many of the skills you learn/physical fitness from sports are highly transferable into parts of military life. Sure, it's not rucking or rope climbing but still.

Do you know anything about your families history in the military? You don't have to give up specifics, just wondering what job, locations, or various branches of service.

When do you plan to speak to a recruiter? Have you discussed this idea with your family yet?

Apologies for my punctuation errors Ranger Disinfertention. I do not know much about some of my families military history because they passed away before I was born but I know that I’ve had several family members that have served in Vietnam and Korea. However, I do know more when it comes to my family members who are currently alive. My grandfather was in the military during the Vietnam era but he doesn’t talk about it at all and so I’m not sure about the details. All three of my uncles as well as my father have served in the Army. My father and two of my uncles were mechanics and my other uncle was a psychological operations specialist. Two of my uncles served in both Iraq and Afghanistan and the other two served in Bosnia. Most of my knowledge of Rangers and Special Forces comes from my uncle who was a psyops specialist because he spent time at Fort Bragg and worked alongside those particular groups. I have discussed my plans with my family quite a bit. I’d say they are relatively supportive with the exception of my grandmother since she had to deal with the stress of her children being deployed and wounded. I plan to speak to a recruiter very soon and I hope to obtain an 11x Op40 contract.

That's good info, Thaddeus. Send your grandfather here and we can chat if he doesn't check in at the VFW in his area... I'm not a VFW person, so yeah. Do that!

You missed my question about recruitment and where you are in that regard... Answer that when you see this.
