Ranger disinfertention, I have not yet completed the ASVAB my school doesn’t offer it, so I have to take the online one. And my recruiter said I can’t go to MEPs until I’m 14 months from my ship date, I have to confirm my test score. I am set to take it in March.

Continue to improve yourself while you wait. Execute another APFT with chin-ups in the next week or so and let's see how you progressed.

Remember that once you are signing a contract or talking to someone at MEPs is not the time to decide what you want. Determine now, while you are not under any pressure, that you want an MOS with an OPT 40 (Airbrone, Ranger) and stick to that. Settle for nothing less.

Ranger Disinfertention, I apologize for the wait. I had the flu this past week and wasn’t able to complete an APFT however this evening I completed one. My pushups have improved slightly 66 in 2 minutes, 74 sit-ups in 2 minutes. 15:13 on my 2 mile. Where I run is rolling hills. On a track or relatively flat surface, that’ll increase. 13 chin-ups. In a week or two when I’m feeling 100% better I’ll complete another one with a 5 mile run substitute.

Hey Nathan! Thanks for checking in. Don't worry about those rolling hills... they can be standard so it's good to train on them. Try doing only a hill repeat day. Lots of fun...

Good scores, keep on it. Sucks you got the Flu but it's definitely getting around again right now. Waiting for my turn because I think I skipped my flu shot.

How did the chin-ups feel? Was that your first time doing them? Did you do them after the run or separately?

Ranger disinfertention, chin ups are something I incorporate into my workouts in the gym. I don’t mind them, personally they’re easier to me than pushups. Not sure why... I did them after my run, with little to no rest. I’ve been asked to join the track team at my school, so I may join. Which will improve my running and overall shape.

Hey Nathan, it's been a few weeks. Did you get on the track team? What's new? Have a chance to do any more APFT work?

Ranger disinfertention, I have some good news. Sorry for the long response time as well. I made the track team, and have been balancing track practice and work. More good news... my recruiter sent me a text saying it’s almost time for me to start the process and that he’s requesting to sign me up for the online ASVAB on Monday. I’ll post an update on when I’m taking it, and how I perform.

That is good news. Was that this previous Monday on the 18th? If so did you hear when you will be taking it? Are you attempting to study at all? You may not need to but it could never hurt if you have time.

Ranger disinfertention, I completed the ASVAB Thursday night. I did not find time to study, however, I received an AFQT of 95 and all my composite scores were above 132. Therefore qualifying me for virtually everything.

Nathan, that is a solid score and you are right. You are ready for about everything you'd want. Did they offer you anything yet? Just because you can do it all doesn't mean you will get what you want. Set your goals. Don't let them work you off them. It is your career, totally.

Stick to what you want and get it. When do you go to MEPS for an offer?

Great job on that asvab. As usual im rolling in a little late, but as far as your pt goes, I think you just need to get the elevation and hills out of your head. You seem to be focusing on that a lot and are almost using it as an excuse for yourself in the area of run times. Hills are gonna happen. There are hills in Ft. Benning, Hills at Hunter Army Airfield, and hills at fort Lewis which is where youll hopefully end up some day. Just run man, and train with a healthy balance of strength training and calisthenics

Ranger Disinfertention, I apologize. My reply to your question, I never sent it... I have not yet been contacted on when I will go to MEPS. I'll post an update when that occurs. I told my recruiter I wasn't signing anything unless it had an option 40 attached. He assured me with my persistence and good ASVAB score, it wouldn't be a problem.

Ranger Drock, thanks for the response. I agree with you. No one is going to care about the hills, I just need to overcome them. A huge area I need to focus on, physically, is flexibility. I'm relatively strong for my size and weight, so as I improve in that area. Hopefully my overall fitness will improve.
