Vomiting constantly while running

Post by FloridaMP »

I currently have a solid Soldier who has a probably medical issue. He constantly pukes while running. He will puke anywhere from 5-10 minutes into a running or intense calisthenics workout and continue to vomit and transition into dry-heaving over the course of the workout. He has adjusted his diet and he will just dry-heave if he fasts the night before. I have tried searching the internet(not alot there actually) and the local medical clinic is about as useful as a 100 year-old nun at a swingers party. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am 99% sure this is a medical issue and would love a jump-off point.

Here are a couple of links that may help:

http://www.navyseals.com/?q=nausea-during-workout
http://fitness.suite101.com/article.cfm ... ced_nausea

May be motion sickness, sinuses, vertigo, etc.

I suffer from Ménière's disease. I used to puke after sprints... and feel lousy on most of my runs (I'll be running 3 Marathons this year). I just hydrate, use nasal spray to clear out the sinuses, eat something small (toast, etc) at least an hour before runs, and hope for the best.

It also may be a case of not processing lactic acid fast enough. This would be something to see a sports medicine doc about.

Another possible solution is mild lactose intolerance. When I recently got off my lazy ass and started running again, I found I was having serious indigestion when running. I reduced dairy consumption, and voila, no indigestion. I have never had any other indication of lactose intolerance, but it made a difference.

Sorry I posted right after Splat and didn't realize he had already mentioned sinus problems.

He may be having problems with his cardiac sphincter, it's the ring of muscle at the bottom of the esophagus that holds everything in. I knew a guy that had the same problem and he had to have surgery to repair it. He was good to go after that.

it could be severe gerd, sinuses, vertigo, hydrogen buildup, a lot of things. if it only happens on exertion i'd be looking at a metabolic condition like hydrogen build up. bottom line is this-has he seen a doc yet? lab draws are going to be needed, along with a full history and maybe even a referral to a specialist. if he hasn't seen a doc yet, take him to sick call.

My abdomen is messed up from a G-tube, scar tissue locking everything together from the inside-out. When the 1 muscle moves to do its job, it pulls the other 1, ligaments and membranes outta whack, resulting in the nerves not being happy and causing me to vomit and dry-heave about 20 times a day (Oh Joy). It could just be something stupid like his abdominal muscles (abdominus & oblique) not being stretched enough. Its usually something stupid, beats the hell outta diving right in and performing a clitoral transplant right away. Just an idea
