Introduction

Post by Chulo »

Good Evening Rangers, Veterans, aspiring Civilians, and family members,

It is an honor to be on this site with you all. I want to start by thanking all you Warriors for everything you have done for the United States of America. I can only hope to carry on your legacy. I have been on this site for about a month to educate myself on what it means to be a Ranger. After reading the history of the 75th Ranger Regiment, I know this is where I belong.

I enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 2011 and wanted to enlist as a 0311(Infantry). The recruiter told me that MOS would not be available for the next three years and persuaded me to go into the reserves as a 0811(Artillery). He lied to me and told me I could go active any time I want. Not knowing anything about the reserves or Military, I signed the contract. I failed myself by not doing any research. Although it was not what I wanted, I have learned a lot about leadership and self discipline.

I am currently in the process of securing a 11X Option 40 contract. The recruiter said that the prior service business rules do not apply to me. I have to wait until November to sign anything since I had PRK surgery in May.

I welcome anyone to contact me and would appreciate any knowledge. If there is anything I can do for anyone, please do not hesitate to ask.

Chulo, welcome to the site! We have a couple Marines floating around here. Maybe they will stop by and say hello as well.

Judging by your signature I am guessing you have just recently exited the reserves? Are you still decently fit? The Army is prepping to change their fitness test for better or worse.

What are your goals in the military? Why did you choose to go active Army instead of active Marine Corps?

Good Afternoon Gentlemen,

Thank you Disinfertention and CharlieRanger1FFV for welcoming me to this site. I am proud and grateful to be here.

Disinfertention, I was in the IRR and to fall off contract with the Marine Corps in October. The recruiter initiated a conditional release for me from the IRR to start the process with the Army.

I am in decent shape. There is always room for improvement. I was into more strength based workouts but I currently have been shifting my focus into cardiovascular and muscular endurance for RASP. I am tracking on the Army changing their fitness test. I am surprised the Army incorporated a hands release push up. I know the Marine Corps is in the process of changing their PFT sit ups to planks.

My goal is to be an effective and lethal leader. I am devoting my life to the Military and going to retire within it. My goals are a dichotomy between being selfish and selfless. I want to protect those who cannot protect themselves while living the fullest life I can.

The Army has better training and opportunities to offer me than the Marine Corps. Everything I love about the Marine Corps seems to be in the 75th Ranger Regiment; a strong sense of pride and tradition.

Yeah, we definitely have some history. Most would call it a long and colorful one.

You're in a good spot. Keep focusing on fitness and the things you can control. What do you think the timeline is for your OPT40? What MOS do you plan to chose or hold out for? Is 0811 actual Arty as in working the M777? As you may have figured out I am technically Artillery as well. I've got a soft spot for those of us who are the 'King of Battle'.

Good Morning Disinfertention,

The recruiter said I should be good to ship in January to OSUT. I plan on securing a 11X OPT40 contract. Although I am not closed minded to 13F, it seems that the 11 series have more opportunities within the Regiment. Do you find that to be true?

Yes as a 0811 I worked with the M777A2 firing 155mm. We definitely are the ‘King of Battle’.

I think it is easier on the 11 series to do meaningful things in Regiment. 13F you have one purpose and can rarely do anything else. At the end of it, pick the job you want not the job a career fits. Army is good about working it out and generally you will like it...

Good Afternoon Disinfertention,

Roger. 13F would appeal to me more than llX if I would be the JTAC. Is there a way to guarantee a JTAC certification in Regiment?

No. I always told my guys that being a JTAC is not a requirement of being a good Fire Supporter. There are a few layers to that discussion and if you want to talk about it PM me. That being said, they all figured it out. Generally, your first chance to be a JTAC will be the senior team leader (SGT) in the Battalion who is going to become a company FSNCO in the next year or so. The company team chief (SSG) is the lowest rank we try to ensure are JTACs.
