Welcome back. Please fix your sigline.

"Growing up" in Batt, at least back in my day, meant coming in as a fresh Private, usually E-1 or E-2 right out of RIP. You had no bad habits for your squad leaders to try and unfuck. Back then it was not that common for young studs to come in with college degrees or entering the service as Specialists' E-4 because of a college degree. Times have changed around that there. Sounds good on paper but IMO everybody should have to suffer life in Batt as a Private. It sucks but it's great at the same time. Builds remarkable character if you follow the good NCO's around you, don't take anything personally, and just watch and learn.

Anyone coming in to us, usually from the 82nd, as a Spec4 or above, was considered a transplant and definitely did not get the respect from his peers or above until he proved himself to them. Even as Privates we didnt have that fear of implants the same as for those that grew up in Batt because it seemed they didn't have that inate mean streak bred into our NCO's. I only saw a couple transplants and they like most of us, didnt fully realize what they were getting into and I'm sure suffered culture shock coming in from any unit, as Regiment life is unlike any other unit in the Army.

It'll be an interesting transition for you if you get there, to say the least. I wish you luck and thank you for serving young man.

To expand a bit on Ranger Cams' comments. It will give you a little more "bragging rights." When I was a LT in the 2-508 INF, I was the only one with a CIB.

Congrats and good luck on your way to Regiment. I want to add to what cams has said. I don't know any Batt Boy that hasn't dealt with an "import" (usually from the 82nd but not always). They want to leave and come to Battalion to be more high speed/do something more/etc. But they then have trouble adjusting because they didn't grow up in Battalion/don't know standards/etc. So they "bring" their old unit with them that they couldn't wait to leave. They have trouble adjusting so they (try to) make others adjust so it's easier on themselves. Privates see all this from import SPC-SFC, and now these Ranger privates have to forget half the things that they got their bags smoked to learn so they can learn the (insert unit here) way of doing it. The Crawl/Walk/Run just went to Crawl. No offense to any unit, but it has caused many good men to go to training/orderly/arms room, ETS, 4187, or terminate their airborne status just to get away from their import SSG squad leader type that just ruined Army life for them, based on the Ranger standards they already grew up with. I know from experience. It is a team/squad/platoon on different/lower/big Army standards instead of Ranger standards. Remember that when you want to say "Well, back at my old unit we..." Sounds like "Well, my drill sergeant taught me to..."

I would think that you will get promoted soon after you complete RASP.

I think you are worried about something that really doesn't matter. E4 or E5, no one will care a year after you get there or a year after you are promoted. Your promotion board where you are now might be easier dealing with unit/local questions and answers.
