Releasing/Reclassing to Active Duty for the Regiment

Post by JR15TX »

Name: Bobby
Unit: 1/141 IN TX ARNG
Age: 20
MOS: 11B
TIS: 1 year 6 months
Deployments: 0
Location: Texas
Rank: SPC

First of all, thank you RANGERS for all your sacrifices. It is because of your service that I have the freedoms to use this forum.

I am a Texas Army National Guard Infantryman with 18 months since MOS qualification and just promoted to Specialist. I am applying for a Conditional Release to Active Duty to then apply for RASP. I'm 6'2'', 223 pounds, 311 APFT, 99 ASVAB, 142 GT. I'm a junior in college and doing well academically, but I am not satisfied with what the National Guard demands of me, I need to be in an environment with higher standards where nothing less than excellence is tolerated and my motivation is not wasted. I have spoken with a Regimental Recruiter, and he informed me that 11B's are a dime a dozen in the Regiment and my best bet would be to enlist Active Duty in an MOS the Regiment is low on. My options are:
  • Combat Engineer
  • Fire Support Specialist
  • Electronic Warfare Specialist
  • Paralegal Specialist
  • Intelligence Analyst
  • Health Care Specialist
  • UAS Repairer
  • Counterintelligence Agent
  • Human Intelligence Collector
  • Geospatial Engineer
  • Geospatial Intelligence Imagery Analyst.
I'm leaning towards Fire Support Specialist, because I dread the thought of being taken out of the platoon-level fight.
My question is: Can any of the RANGERS here offer guidance on which of the MOS's listed above are low strength in the Regiment and which get to serve with the infantrymen?

As far as who "gets to serve" with infantry? The Regiment is no different than the makeup of your current unit.

As far as strength numbers?..That is OPSEC (no shit, it really is..)

RANGER Jim, I have tried the link. It is what I used as a frame of reference for the jobs I listed.
RANGER Sleepy Doc, I am not looking to violate OPSEC. My apologies.

UPDATE: The latest USAREC message dictates that as a "Prior Service" Infantryman, I have two options: come into the Big Army as an 11B, more than likely to a leg unit where I'll wait a year before I can apply for RASP. Or go 18X, even though that wouldn't get me to RASP. I seriously a Regiment Liaison at Airborne would waste his time with an 18X.

Guidance, RANGERS?
