Re-Introduction

Post by TexGrizzly »

Hello Rangers, I lurked this site for awhile before I shipped out to Benning last April with an 11x w/op40. Long story short, I passed the first 4 APFTs in OSUT, got a stomach sickness the night before our 5th APFT, and failed it. I was told I had to drop my Op. 40 and I fought to keep it to no avail. I was not allowed to retake the APFT and came down on orders for Vilseck, Germany. I'm currently an RTO in the 2nd Cavalry Regiment. I recently contacted a recruiter in hopes of getting my chance at RASP, but being overseas, I have to wait until my DEROS to attend. I'll continue to frequent this site, study my ass off, and keep raising my PT scores. TexGrizzly out.

Have you had a deployment with the 2d Stryker?

Negative, Ranger Jim. I've been here about 6 months now. As of now, it doesn't appear that a deployment is in the cards anytime soon.

It is always better if you have a CIB.

I'm aware that showing up in the Regiment as an E-4 11B with no CIB or deployment patch looks bad Ranger Jim. However, I'm going to get to the Regiment as fast as I can because I'm not getting any younger, and earning the Scroll isn't getting any easier.

Belated welcome and good luck in securing a RASP slot if you haven't already.

I'll also add that Vilseck blows, but make sure you're making the most of being in Europe.

There was a great Gasthaus in Vilseck! Made their own beer! But in Graf we had Loenbrai with flippies!

Ranger Jim, about a month after my last post, my unit came down on orders to deploy. I've been in Afghanistan for 2 1/2 months now and I recently contacted a recruiter to inquire about securing my slot for RASP. I was told that when my packet is submitted, assuming everything goes well, I should be able to travel TDY en route to Ft. Benning for BAC and RASP in Aug. 2014 when I PCS. I'm currently starting my packet, studying my ass off, and doing PT everyday. I informed my team leader of my desire to attend RASP, and he told me that he'll help me square my packet away.

Ranger Sledge Hammer, thank you for the welcome. It's motivating to see that you were in the same situation as me and you ended up getting your shit. Vilseck definitely blows pretty bad. However, I recently decided that when I re-deploy to Germany, I refuse to spend a single weekend in the barracks until I PCS. I'm definitely going to take full advantage of the little time I'll have left there.

So, did you earn your CIB? At least now you have an overseas patch. Never, never quit!

Ranger Jim, I haven't earned my CIB. It doesn't look like that's going to change either. However, I realize that things can change in an instant over here so I'm remaining vigilant.
