Best Camelbak option

Post by Cayo »

Rangers,

I have been looking around a bit at different packs, wondering if I could find good deals on the internet. In Ranger Cdwdirect's post about RIP he said to buy a black Camelbak 3L.

While I doubt that rucking technology has changed drastically within the last 4 years of Ranger Cdwdirect posting this, I wanted to know if there are now "better" or "more advanced" versions out there, or if this is a tried and true classic. I feel like you can almost always find a better deal on the internet than at any store, so if I can pick one up cheap before I leave that would be great.

Any personal recommendations on rucks or packs also would be greatly appreciated.

I did read through a few threads, one specifically where some rucks were recommended for a kid who wanted to get practice road marching. I post this because I am not sure if there are specific requirements for rucks at RASP, or if anything that will hold 40+ pounds will do as long as it is "tactical colors."

I liked the mule for a while, when I didn't *need* an assault pack.

Then I found myself always needing one as an RTO, and went for the BFM... and didn't look back. Still use the BFM today for stuff.

Rangers and Veterans,
Thank you for the advice. Hopefully I will be able to stumble across a used BFM on ebay before I ship.

nah, don't worry about it till you get to wherever you end up as permanent party. You more than likely won't be able to use it in any training or temporary unit assignments.

This thread is about 5 years old, so I'm wondering if there are any better suggestions for a good Camelbak? I have never owned one, but my wife and I do a lot of hiking so I was thinking about getting one or maybe two. we have at least three big hikes planned for this summer. I usually just carry 2 quart canteens and water bottles. Do you think they're worth the price or should I stick with the canteens?

Get a Camelback dude. Just tailor the system you choose to your most arduous activity or the better option is just buy the blivet and put it in a Tactical Tailor pack.

Camelbaks are easy and convenient to drink from. If you've already got good bags to walk with, yeah, just buy a bladder and tube. I ran a mule as my flying go bag because it was just small enough. I use it cycling now. I actually have two. One for each activity.

Buying a bag and bladder system is pricy, so, as I said, if you have a good bag already, just throw a bladder in it.
