jas0341 Intro...

Post by jas0341 »

Evening ladies and gents, my name is Cpl. Jas0341*. I served in the USMC from 2007-2012, as FAST and Mortarman. The units I served with were 1st FAST, 3rd Plt, and 2nd Battalion, 5th Marines Fox Company.

So I got out of the Corps in Oct. 2012, and have been back at a school. As I sit listening to the teacher drone on about garbage I really have no care for (not to mention I still don't know wtf I want to study, as it all seems so boring.) As the days go by, this urge is filling up inside of me. All I think about is my military experience. Anyways, I have offered by Triple Canopy to do security in Kuwait. I am seriously thinking about that, only because it gets my foot in the door for PMC.

But, I am also thinking about joining the Army for Rangers before I do any PMC stuff. As a prior service member, I hear it is a pain in the ass to get back into the military. But college isn't my thing. It's just wasting my potential. I don't care about the same things college students do. The military is the place for me.

Now that my intro is through, on to my next question. Does anyone have any knowledge about a prior service Marine joining the Army for Rangers? Also, I've read they don't have Ranger contracts, but you can get a Option 40. I'm wondering if it's going to be the the same amount of red tape as it is to get back into the Marines. Before I joined the Corps, I chose between Marine or Army Ranger. I chose Marine. Now I want to earn the title of Ranger...

(*edited by Admin. - do not use your real last name Marine. Please do read FAQ's.)

Thank you Steadfast, and I apologize for not reading the FAQs thoroughly. On Tuesday I'll be talking with the Army recruiter to see what he can do. I am very interested in 68W and 18X. Time to research!

So I asked the same type of question on "Ask a Soldier" Army forum. I was informed IF the US Army see's my FAST and SOI experience as 11B, I can enlist as 11B then volunteer to try out for Regiment. If not, they said I can enlist in 18X. I hope they're right.

I'm confused a little. Do you want an 18x option or the Ranger option?

Get the Ranger option and you can always do the "Q" course later on.

Lots of dog faces have crossed over to the Regiment in the past. It all has a lot to do with who know, what the needs of the Regiment / Big Army are and as xray put it, the way you market yourself.

Some people (Rangers) here are a lot more knowledgeable than I am to speak on this topic.

Welcome and good luck in your aspirations.

Welcome.

I don't really have anything useful to add to your quest, I'm just happy to see another mortar maggot here.

Welcome. It has been a while since I was rucking around south west Georgia, but I can say with 100% certainty that the Ranger Regiment is always in short supply of medics. It is a very long path to get assigned to one of the battalions, but there is an equally high attrition rate for them. Not sure if you can get guaranteed a opt. 40 being prior service, but if you took a standard contract and volunteered while in training, I'm fairly certain they would snatch you up in a heartbeat.
