Hello Rangers, future soldiers, and anyone else who may be reading,

My name is Luke, I'm from New York and I'm currently a freshman in college. Joining the military has been something I've wanted to do since the beginning of high school. I originally wanted to be a Marine because my father took part in Marine PLC, although he did not go back for his second summer because he married my mother. Thoughts of joining the Army began after extensive research into each branch of the military and gathering conclusions on how I would like to live my life. I stumbled upon the Special Operations community, specifically the Rangers, and was immediately intrigued by such headstrong men. The thought of protecting my country but in a very proactive way was what I know I want to do.

I have tried college and am a decent student (3.3 gpa) but I have had my heart set on this and plan on enlisting when the contract I desire opens up which is either 11X, 35P or 68W with Option 40. I have read many posts and have taken all factors into consideration such as availability, timing, flexibility and yes even luck . I look forward to gaining more knowledge about the enlistment process and reading everyone's stories.

Ranger Jim I will post my self administered PT results within the next 72 hours. In regards to your other questions; I go to Nassau Community College located in Long Island, NY. I want to become a Ranger because the honor of serving my country in such a capacity is all I could ever ask for in life. I will stop at nothing to reach my goal and become part of such an inspiring brotherhood.

Ranger Jim, I have completed your assignment and I must admit, my results are quite pathetic. There was a 2 minute break in between each.
Push-ups in 2 minutes: 34
Sit-ups in 2 minutes: 30
Pull-ups: 5
2 mile run: 17:16
While there are no excuses and this in completely unacceptable, I assure you my run time is definitely not a good indicator of where I stand. It was 34 degrees and raining. I am currently in the works of making a fitness plan to improve these numbers dramatically and from everything I have read on here, the only way to do that is with hard work and consistency.

I like the no excuse approach. There can be reasons, but no excuses. Now you have established your PT baseline. Obviously there is room for much improvement. Again, use the search feature to assist as you make your life decisions. Never, never quit!
