I need to trek down to Weymouth next time I'm in Limey Land. That and the Isle of Wight. Apparently there are cliffs there that were used extensively in training for Point Du Hoc.

Thanks for the history lesson!

Edit-

I also understand that Swanage played a key role during training exercises between the British Commandos and Rangers prior to D-Day.

If any of you ever get to Devon/Cornwall, you will see buildings that still have pock marks from the live fire exercises conducted there. Entire villages were evacuated - including livestock, to allow for one of the most extensive live fire training exercises in history.

Jim, not sure if you might be able to find it, but I am going to be on the Isle of Wight in June, and would really like to visit some of the training sites there. So far exact locations have been pretty much impossible to find.

I'm already planning on pestering some of the local pub grumps to see if I can get some local intel, but would appreciate a little advanced info.
