Wow, I did not know they made it all the way down there!

Being the 18th century historian guy here...

What the fuck?!!!

Haiti was part of Hispaniola and was owned by France. The eastern half of the island was owned by Spain. With the Treaty of Paris military operations against Spain and France ceased. There were no actions in Hispaniola after the French and Indian war.

After the French and Indian War Rogers had big problems. He had spent much of his own money equipping the Rangers during the war and he was now in debt. Through a series of bad choices and partners, he ended up in debtor prison in New York, but he escaped and traveled to England. In England he tried his hand at writing books and plays about the war. These were popular and caught the eye of King George, who made Rogers governor of Fort Michilimackinaw (Mackinaw, MI) and authorized him to search for the mythical Northwest Passage to the Pacific. Unfortunately Rogers had pissed off Sir Thomas Gage, the British commander in North America, and he went out of his way to try to find dirt on Rogers. Finally Gage was able to get Rogers private secretary, Nathaniel Potter, to swear that Rogers was trying to give his province of MIchigan back to the French. This was a bullshit charge, but it was enough to get Rogers relieved and tried for treason. Rogers was vindicated, since the charges were bullshit, but he would not serve under Gage. Rogers tried to get the King to forgive his debts, but now the King had a problem with the colonies becoming rebellious. Rogers went back to debtors prison, but sued Gage for false imprisonment on the treason charges. Gage settled out of court in return for giving Rogers a major's commission on half pay (like a reserve officer). About this time he returned to the US, and tried to become part of the rebellion... and the rest is history.

Let me remind you all that Karl (Lefty) and I both went to RS several years before the Pastor.

I found what I was looking for, Martinique, 16 January, 1762, Amos Ogden and Joseph Wait, both veterans of the St. Francis Raid, captained ranging companies in the Martinique campaign.

American Rangers are listed as taking part in the invasion . http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_ex ... Martinique" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I am not a historian and I am relying upon what I read in White Devil by Stephen Brumwell. I just didn't want anyone to think that I was completely ignorant. :D

No problem. The island raids during the war were known. The only thing I was taken aback by was Haiti, which no one raided, and the comment that it happened after the war. The islands were fair game during the war due to the sugar production. Sugar = rum. Rum was a super cash crop and owning a sugar plantation would be like owning an oil well today.

Nathan Hale was captured by Robert Rogers and his Rangers. Irony abounds.
