My son has had the idea of joining the military since about 5th grade. All he could talk about was being a Navy Seal. He was under the impression that he could be a Seal but be in a different branch of the service. When he was a Junior in High School he signed up for the delayed entry program in the...

New Ranger

My surprise for Christmas was final today. I drove down to Fort Benning on Tuesday and attended RIP graduation 03-05 this morning and pinned the 3rd Battalion scroll on my sons shoulder. It took us 12 hours to make a 8.5 hour drive due to about 10 inches of snow in Illinois but we made him home safe...

Thanks for the response. Is the 3-4 years limited by the Ranger himself or is it imposed on him?

Where do Rangers go when they are done being Rangers

I have been reading this forum for quite some time and noticed that most Rangers stay in their Battalion for 3-4 years. Some don't have anything else listed, others list other assignments. What determines where you go when you leave a Ranger Bat? Do you get a choice or is it where the Army needs you...

Pleasant surprise

I got a surprise phone call the other day informing me that my son who I thought was still in RIP hold and wasn't going to RIP until January actually was just finishing his first week of RIP. He was going to give me a Xmas present of showing up with a tan beret. His mother and brother managed to kee...

INTRO

I am the very proud father of a soon to be RIP trainee. He has graduated ITB on 10/15 and recently finished Airborne on 11/05. He is currently in RIP hold and was told he will start RIP in January. I feel he definitely has what it takes to make a Ranger. I base my opinion on the posts I read on your...

First, I am posting for the first time on this forum. I am a proud father of a soon to be RIP attendee. He just graduated ITB on 10/15 and Airborne on 11/05 and is currently in RIP hold.
