It's important for everyone in a leadership position to educate troops why we as Americans traditionally treat POW'S humanely. When POW'S are treated humanely it lessens your current and future enemies will to fight. They are more likely to surrender; then they can be used for intelligence..... thin...

In some ways it seems like some of the personal weapons used by the soldiers in WWII are more powerfull than our current personal weapons. For instance the M1 garand shot a high power 30-06 cartridge, the .45 pistol, and how about the often shown use of the .45 caliber thompson sub-machine gun at cl...

BAND OF BROTHERS

I just finished watching the Band of Brothers series that ran on the History channel this week. If you haven't seen this, rent the series. It has a lot of great lessons that we can all appreciate from the WWII generation.

STARVATION DIET

I just finished reading the book NO EXCUSES LEADERSHIP by Brace Barber. I thought that the book was great and reveals what ranger school is all about. I think that it clears up a lot of misconceptions held by civilians and non-ranger grads. Many people think that ranger school is where you go to lea...

The post is prompted by my own memories of how naive I was as a teenager entering the service. I don,t want to discourage anybody; I just hope that new recruits can; in a small way, learn from my experience.

REALITY CHECK

After the excitement of their initial training wears off, so many young enlistees become disillusioned with service in the operational military. One of the reasons for this is that young men start out naive, and with a overly optimistic image of our military. It is important to realize that our mili...

My duties included patrolling, route reconaissance, and handling POW's. I view today's military from three diffe...

Sports/Preparation

As a veteran younger people often ask me if any sports would help prepare them for military service. Here is my view. I dedicated my high school years to playing football. In hindsight I feel that although it was better than nothing; football had very little to do with preparing me for service as an...
