Thoughts on preparing for RASP

Physical conditioning for RASP My purpose in writing this to only offer an opinion about what works and what doesn't to prepare and successfully make it through RASP (Ranger Assessment and Selection Process). You will never touch a barbell, a kettlebell, or a dumbell in RASP. You will however do a s...

Re: Sitrep

Week 8 sitrep: Week 8 was another great week of training. The beginning of the week was dedicated to fast rope practice. We practiced both slick and combat load fast roping during the day, and then at night. Don't let go of the rope and you'll be fine. We had our swim evaluation in which you're in f...

Re: Sitrep

Along with two other mentees and the rest of RASP class 09-13, I graduated yesterday and donned my Tan Beret for the first time. Right now I'm on cloud 9, but I'm still keeping in mind that this is only the first step. Life is going to get much harder, but I'm right where I want to be in life. I'll ...

We just finished week 7. Graduation is this coming Friday. Week 7 focused on becoming more comfortable shooting at distance and Close Quarters Marksmanship (CQM), all while using the EOtech.. We shot at 100, 200, and 300m from all the shooting positions we have already learned. You'll be amazed how ...

The first day we started with a class on breaching and had a few demo's using various mechanical breaching tools. Day 2 we practiced mechanical breaching for a while, and had an excelle...

Re: Sitrep

Ok, so week 5 is in the books. This week we spent time with our Beretta M9 and the M4A1 working on marksmanship. Monday we drew weapons and began to practice various shooting drills with the M9. We shot from multiple distances and began to get familiar with pistol marksmanship. Tuesday was more work...

Re: Sitrep

Great job, and keep it up. Don't quit! A lot of guys chafed really bad. I recommend body glide. Its like deodorant stick for your body. Rub it on any parts that might chafe. Trust me it really does help minimize chafing. I'll second that, although I just used normal gel deodorant because it's what ...

Re: Sitrep

Cole Range is over. The week was definItely rough. We rucked 7 miles out to start the week. Each day we had two land nav practicals, one day and one night. In between land nav iterations, we had various tasks and classes. Are the days long, yea, absolutely, but they do go by quick. Just embrace the ...

Re: Sitrep

Great SITREP! Have you run into any of your fellow Mentees? Never, never quit! Ranger Jim, So far I've only linked up with John (jth456). He's definitely squared away and I'm glad to have him as a Ranger buddy. Outstanding sitreps, keep 'em coming. Roger Ranger Steadfast. Just hoping to pay it forw...

Re: Sitrep

Week 1 of RASP is complete. I’m planning on posting one sitrep a week for the duration of RASP (and it adds motivation to make it to the next sitrep post.) Like jth456 already posted, the week was fairly straight forward. Our general schedule is PT in the morning, classes until lunch, and again afte...

Re: Sitrep

Good luck dude. You're literally 100 meters from where I work/ live. Thanks Ranger Willy_P. I wouldn't want to be anywhere else in life right now. Palms in or out on pull-ups? Ranger Jim, The standard at RASP is palms facing in. I try to mix up my grip and hand placement though. I feel like palms o...

Re: Sitrep

Pre-RASP Sitrep Hi Rangers and other mentees, I've been at pre-RASP since this past Tuesday. Here is a quick sitrep about my experience so far The PT here is great. Heavily focused on running (fast) and pushups. Here is my advice if you are preparing for RASP (and also pre-RASP): Run! And then run s...
