Ranger Steadfast,
I'm pretty sure those jellyfish sent out a recon first and determined that they would need to take you out with overwhelming force, henceforth, the assault force of 40 direct attack-jellyfish was not a coincidence.

Re: Introduction
Jumping Jack, I was just telling an acquaintance of mine (he was a Navy search and rescue crew chief) about how we loved getting picked up by the birds in mountain phase in RS! We got PB and J's and some fruit, inflight. For a famished, disoriented and deranged Ranger student, you guys were an absol...

Re:
I watched the 82nd fly over Torrijos-Tocumen, with lights on none the less. They were told the airfield was secure and they could land. The reply came " we are the 82nd airborne, not the 82nd airland, we're jumping" and they did...right smack dab in the middle of our objective. We ceased ...

Re: FOG's
I was at the Vietnam Memorial in 1988, as a young PFC., on July 4th, while serving with the 82d. It was a not only a memorable moment, but a moment in time that I will never forget, I was in for two years at that point, but had met met some of the FOG's during Division Review. I was at the wall and ...

I think that means you get to use rubber gloves when cleaning the latrines instead of going bare hand.

Re: Ranger School....Back when it was easy?????
Looks like 1959, or thereabout somewhere. If you look at the first video you can see when in Mountain Phase, on the wall, they have dates listed with the last being 1959. About the second one, I couldn't be sure...when did they stop trying to look like Castro's troops with the cardboard inserts in t...

Re: What was Ranger School like for you?
Another old post, but one worthy of revival, in my opinion. My assigned Ranger Buddy (FA from the 82d) turned out to be a psycho dickhead...he screwed me, first, on the 12-miler in 1st Phase (I cramped up in one of my hammies during a break, I couldn't stand up when we were told to resume and he jus...

I love you Rangermom!!! I wish you were my mom when I went to Ranger School...it would have saved me money on the cab on the way to the PX then Burger King on the way to Ryan's Steakhouse, where I did four laps around the food bar...oh, wait...that was just my 6 hour break! Good times, indeed!

Re: Question about airborne units
Squidward, I spent my time with the 82d, first with a line company and then with Recon. I hated the line company. Tell your son (if he's an 11B) to get his ass over to his Recon Plt. CP, ASAP, and ask for a job. Tell him to be persistent, as there are only 24 slots in their TO&E. I bugged my Bn....
