Re: 5 Mile Run Improvement
I concur with boscounderfoot. Sprints/intervals are good for any running that's under about twelve minutes. After that, you switch from anaerobic to aerobic endurance. I would say to limit intervals to one day a week, and do endurance runs for time, not distance, the other days. days that you're not...

Re: 07-11 - Finally
1) Don't quit. Seriously. And I don't mean merely LOMing, I mean don't just say 'fuck it' and starting doing the easy wrong over the hard right. 2) In the immortal words of SFC Martel - Beach Body - thighs and calves. Write that down. You will be rucking like crazy, with more weight than you're used...

Re: push up proper form
Continue to do chest-to-grounds for training, but also practice the 90 degree 'standard' pushups, so you know what they feel like when you do an APFT. Keep in mind for RS that you are doing chest-to-grounds, no matter what the 21-20 standard says.

07-11 - Finally
Rangers, I took a few weeks off to drink some beers during BRC and block leave, but I finally scraped through and managed to graduate Ranger School this past Friday. All I can say is that if you only take away one piece of advice from this forum, it's don't quit. It sounds trite, but if you follow i...

Update: IBOLC
Rangers, To give you an update, I have successfully completed IBOLC, and am now waiting to class up for Ranger School at the end of February. I like to stay anonymous as possible, so I will simply state that I did quite well in my class standing. I will admit at first I disliked the course, I felt l...

Re: Boots at Ranger
Yeah, there's all kinds of rumors floating around about boots, here at IBOLC. I know from talking to fellow LTs who went through that Rockys were authorized. HHC staff told us that basically, if they sell it at clothing sales, and/or it is in accordance with AR 670-1 regulations, they are good. Just...

Re: 300 Club
Could you go into a little more detail, as far as what you do for PT with ROTC, as well as what kind of lifting you do? Without knowing any more about what you do, my advice would be to go ahead and incorporate long slow runs into your workout routine. If you're already getting 1-2 circuit training/...

Re: Rope Climbing and Misc Stuff
Shock, thanks for the vid. I think at one point when I had regular access to a rope, I was able to use that technique. Between that time and now, I had lost the technique, and just relied on the boots and trousers to provide enough friction to hold me up. I think what I'll do is practice the techniq...

Re: IOBC Journal
Understood, Rangers. I've arrived at Fort Benning, so posts should occur regularly now. It's pretty much the same as I remembered it; except for the new Airborne School barracks that they're constructing. :( I would have settled for a mattress that didn't suck.

Rope Climbing and Misc Stuff
Whelp, first day at Benning, and I decided to check out the Audie Murphy gym. After the desk lady showed me around the place, dodging crossfitters and their Vibram five-fingers (what is with those things), I decided to give the rope a try. I've been feeling pretty saucy about my PT recently; I've be...

Re: IOBC Journal
Rangers, One last thing, before I actually leave for Benning. A Ranger was good enough to end me some advice in a PM, regarding the pitfalls of OPSEC, and I wanted to pick your brains on the subject. My goal for this journal is to be a guide to how to prepare for, and what to expect from IOBC. I don...

IOBC Journal
Rangers, In a couple of days, I will be reporting in to IOBC. Among my friends and peers who commissioned at the same time as myself, and who branched Infantry, I have the earliest report day. We are also pretty much clueless (insert 2LT joke here) as to what to expect. Officers to talk to were a bi...

Re: Your Opinion Concerning Compasses
Thank you for the replies, Rangers.
Think I'll go find an ice pack for that burn.If the weight of a compass is going to hold you back...you might want to rethink your career choice.

Re: Your Opinion Concerning Compasses
You need to have mils for adjusting fire. Don't worry you will be issued a compass. Army compasses are good quality and very stable. Roger, Ranger Jim. My dad was a cannon-cocker, so he's all over my case about that. I'm not worried about getting a bad compass or anything like that; as I said, I am...

Your Opinion Concerning Compasses
Rangers, I'm here to humbly ask your opinion on the matter of compasses. First of all, I've got the old tried-and-true M1, as well as an M2 compass in excellent condition. I certainly don't mind using them, and they both have nice features, but if I could find a single commercial compass that would ...
