Re: ROTC and the Ranger Battalion
All ROTC officers are Reserve commission. Only USMA are active commission. It's a throwback to WW2 days, and bears nothing on your officer career once commissioned to active duty. If the 75th only let in USMA officers it would end up being a ring knocking shit storm. The only difference in the commi...

Re: RWB2015 Introduction
The pot incident shouldn't be a barrier. You were right to disclose it then. Honesty is the best policy. While we like to assume the gov't has it's shit in order, and the DoD has access to previous screenings filled out with other agencies, the truth is they don't and it won't come up. I'd say your ...

Congrats.
Have you, by any chance, read the 'Yellow Green Beret' series of books?

Re: Ranger Packing List (1990's)
I'll admit, when I was figuring out load outs I pretty much just copied what was recorded in the LRRP books I'd read. I figured those guys learned the hard way, so why not try to emulate them?

Do the Alaska gig, go back to school, finish the Associate's, train up in the process, enlist, go Ranger, use GI Bill, get Bachelors, get Masters, profit.

Was in Ranger School with Brad Crose, and in the 101st with Nate Self. The look on his face as he described the battle is one that I will never forget.

Rangers, I have a question, what are some of the things you do to help improve your overall land nav (especially night land nav) skills and is there anyway I can practice it on my own? Did you recycle for land nav? No biggie if you did. I failed a key land nav test early as a cadet, and it was the ...

I went one time and waited 45 minutes for my food, which never even arrived.
So, from my standpoint, no real loss.

My mom practically disowned me.
But, she and my father drove from PA to GA to watch me get my tab pinned. High School and college graduation, Division 1 soccer, ROTC, etc....that's the proudest they'd ever been of me.

The good news - guys who go in 'later' in life tend to have the maturity and fortitude to do well. The bad news - at 26 they'll all call you 'old man.' Seriously, your background and experience give you a favorable advantage. Sometimes it takes living life a little to see what you really want,...

Ranger Jim, Today we did our two jumps with the T-10D. My first one went well, but during the mass exit jump, an officer and I got completely entangled, and were not able to untangle ourselves, so we landed together. Fortunately, neither of us were injured. Ready to start with the T-11 tomorrow! Th...
