The Ever So Inventive Topic: Intro

Post by pile of privates »

Hi, My name's James and while I read the rule about not mentioning ranks AFTER creating a user name, I guess I can get away with it, seeing as how my DEP card says I'm a private.

Anyway, I'm 25 and just now going in. I've got option 40 on my contract and I ship off to Benning Jan 25th.

Right now I'm trying to put on as much weight as possible, as I passed minimum weight by 1 lb. at MEPS (I shoulda worn lead lined boxers ;) ) I'm also working out to total failure every other day.

My friend and I spend a bit of time at least every other weekend over 14,000 feet, and I climb 5.8 lead, or 5.10a top rope.

My main worry is running, as I can hike with an excessive pack for days on end with no issue, but once the speed raises over a mild jog I start to tire out rather soon, so I'm working on that too.

Any advice would be greatly apreciated on the weight gaining or working on getting my run on.

Also, I was told by someone (after I swore in) that Ranger Indoc (option 40) didn't necessarily mean I got a shot at Ranger School? Is this correct? What does Ranger Indoc mean?

Thanks :)

You're a Private on paper....you're not even a soldier yet.

Dude, if you can't run, you're wasting a slot. You've got to be 3/4 antelope to get to a Ranger Bat.

Anyway, welcome to the site and thanks for signing on the dotted line.

Hey Ranger, no I wasn't. I stayed at the 2nd Batt for my time in service, I was happy enough there and really liked the shitty weather up at Fort Lewis. I liked it so much that years later I moved back up there and bought a house, from there I moved to Dublin, Ireland
