I recommend the three written by Rangers at the bottom of this page - the three on the left. The Ranger Handbook isn't really a book, more a reference manual.

"Black Berets and Painted Faces" by Linderer. LRRP stories from Vietnam. Absolutely incredible book. He has others too but I haven't gotten to them yet.

I feel like a librarian... gathering up book threads from all over the place and putting them on the shelf here. Great threads and wonderful discussions! Much too nice to keep them buried. Time to put them up on display again.

Several books are menitioned here, mostly Starship Troopers by Robert Heinlein:

I liked Recondo, if you're into LRRP/ Vietnam. Talks a lot about Recondo school but is mostly about a LRRPs story in RVN. That's the first book that didn't take me a year and half to read  , so I guess that's saying something.

A More Elite Soldier was pretty cool. Didnt expect the whole christianity thing but still a good read.

I reccommend em both

Charlie Co Rangers, LRRPS and Rangers in Vietnam, Rangers in Korea and Rangers in WWII, can't remeber the authors but they were squad required reading when I was a pvt. History is important in upholding the standard, lineage and traditions.

I broke out books I had packed away. I have alot of books, some authors I forgot.

Six Silent Men #1-3 Authors: Rey Martinez, Gary Linderer, and Kenn Miller
Eyes of the Eagle: Gary Linderer
War Paint
Pathfinder(long but good book)
Recondo(Larry Chambers wrote it and he has some other books I bought)
The Commandos(this book goes thru Delta, SEALs, and two other specops)
Starship Troopers(excellent military book)
No Bended Knee(about ww2)
Diary of an Airborne Ranger
Gone Native(a green beret who spends 7 or 8 years in RVN)
Blood on the Risers
Marine Sniper: 93 Confirmed Kills
Battle for the Central Highlands
Boots on the ground
Down South
Reflections of a Warrior(CMH awardee)
Lost in Translation
One Shot-One Kill
Special Men
Mekong First Light
Fighting Men
The Final Mission: Spooky 8(supposedly its true, and really interesting about the equipment they possess)
Warriors
Behind Hitler's Lines(good book about an American POW who escaped three times from the Germans only to end up going to Moscow and then back to Germany to fight with the Soviets)
The Element of Surprise(the only bad thing about this book is the author liked to do drugs, but never on a mission. But if you overlook this aspect the writing is excellent and so are the accounts)
First Seal, Roy Bohem(good guy, even if he does hang out with Marcinko)
Green Knight: Red Mourning
Phantom Warriors 1&2: Gary Linderer (LRRP/Ranger units other than his own)
Dead Center(begining of a sniper program in RVN)
Hunters and Shooters(like I said I was skeptical because it had to do with Marcinko but he wrote a chapter and its somewhat entertaining)

I have more books around here somewhere, I have to hide them from my wife she thinks I read too much, but this is all I could find for now.

I can't believe that none on here mentioned S.O.G. by John Pilaster. And the countless hero's that will never come home. ~S~

SOG was the one with the red cover in paperback? Had a bunch of over the border missions? I love the mock movement they created, and the ammo problems that made letters from Hanoi come down.

Speaking of SOG, these books are good too:

18 months in SOG
Blackjack 33 and 34

SOG were some real professionals, I wish they could get more credit than they have. But these guys wouldn't care if they got credit for what they did, its not in their character.
