Future soldier, questions about option 40 as a 35F

Post by carbonlife4010 »

Hi Rangers,

First off, thank you all for your service and dedication. It would be an honor for me serve among your ranks. I'm a U.S. naturalized citizen, but was born in Iran. My family fled Iran when I was 3 years old to escape religious persecution since my family is not Muslim. I wish to have nothing to do with Iran and am more than ready to give up all ties and citizenship to that country. However, I do have extended family (uncles, aunts, cousins) that are currently living in Iran. I personally don't have any relations or contact with them, but my parents do and they have visited Iran 3-4 times in the past for family reasons strictly. My entire immediate family and their spouses are all US citizens as well.

I want to be a Ranger as a 35F - Intelligence Analyst. I've already talked to my recruiter and started putting my packet together (enlisted, not for OCS) and plan on going to MEPS in Oct when the new Fiscal Year starts. I'm shooting for an option 40 contract as a 35F, but first I have a few questions!

1. Does my background prevent me from obtaining a security clearance? I have no criminal record and have good credit as well with no student loans.

2. What kind of work can I expect to have with a 35F MOS in the 75th Ranger Regiment?
Will I be kicking down doors with fellow Rangers on certain missions or will I just be behind a desk for my whole career?
I really want a hands-on Intel job for a SOC unit, coordinating mission intel, etc

3. Will serving in the 75th Ranger Regiment slow down my promotion rate compared to a conventional Army unit?

Thank you all in advance!

My apologies, I couldn't find the introduction section...maybe it's just me but that section of the forum seems to disappear from the forum main page. I can't even see the intro section again it seems, is this a forum issue?

But thanks for unlocking this post, hopefully I can get some useful information from you Rangers. Much appreciated

Ranger Jim, I've edited my original post on this thread; removing the introduction part to make it more organized and clear.
