Al Qaeda leader Zawahri urges Syrians to unite against Assad

Post by RangerX »

Al Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahri urged Syrians to unite to bring down President Bashar al-Assad and thwart what he said were U.S. plans to set up a client state in Syria to safeguard Israel's security.

In a 22-minute recording, posted on Islamist websites on Thursday to mark 65 years since Israel's founding, Zawahri also said the only way to solve the Palestinian problem was through Jihad (Islamic holy war).

"Lions of the Levant, unite around this honorable goal and rise above party affiliations," Zawahri said.

Zawahiri had to do something though, so I agree no surprise. Jabat Al Nusra had been steadily whipping Asad's forces until Hezbollah and Quds started supporting them. Without a true "call to action" JAN is going to lose quickly and the "new enemy" will gain momentum on multiple fronts.

In essence they already are. Hezbollah and Iran's Quds Force have sided with Assad's regime, for several months now. About the time you saw the momentum shift from Jabat al Nusra back to Assad. Without reposting 20 pages of intel, it's hard to describe the reasoning behind the alliance, other than Iran is uncomfortable with the occurrences in the region.

They also have a contingent "advising" IA and JAM forces in Iraq with an offensive to the west of Bagdad. Pretty much hands on everything.

Al Qaeda and the Muslim Brotherhood are the Crips and Bloods of the Mideast. They do not like each other, but each one wants to run their area.

Our President has decided to back the Muslim Brotherhood.

There probably won't be any ramifications due to that in the future.
