Introduction - David

Post by Primeraman »

Hello,

My name is David and I will be joining the United States Army soon. I am scheduled to go to MEPS sometime in the next few weeks. I was originally going for an 11B contract but am now considering going 68W. I am 29 years old, which appears to be about 10 years older on average than most of the other introductions I see on here. Earning my Ranger Tab and serving in the 75th is something I've wanted to earn for a very long time. I want to thank all of the past and present Rangers for their service to our great country. I would also like to thank all of you Rangers and other members of this community for taking the time to put this site together. It has been a great source of information for myself and others like me. I have been training everyday for the last few months when I decided I wanted to choose this new career path. Some friends of mine that are currently serving in the Army (non Rangers) told me that being a Ranger and earning that title will probably be the toughest thing I will ever do in my life. They also said it will be one of the proudest days that I will have if I make it to that point.

I have a Bachelor's Degree in Business from Indiana University Kelley School of Business, however serving my country has been one of the only things I've ever truly wanted to do. I scored higher than I thought I was going to on the ASVAB, so I may look into Special Forces too. My recruiter is pushing me more the Special Forces route. However, I feel like my heart lies with the Rangers. The honor, integrity, determination, attitude and the brotherhood of the Rangers is what stood out to me as a child. I'm currently an accountant and tax specialist. I know that sounds like a drastic change to the life of a Ranger, and may cause some of you to chuckle. My only real hobby is cars. I am a fan of German Automobiles. I'm not a big poster on forums, I like to sit back in the shadows and do more reading. However, I look forward to becoming an active member in this community. Feel free to contact me if you have any tax questions or want to talk cars. Sorry for the long post. Again, thank you all for your service and time

Thank you Ranger Jim. For the past few weeks, after finding this site, all I have done is searched and read through the posts. I have found an answer to every question I've had about the Rangers on this site. I've also learned quite a bit about things that I hadn't even considered yet when making my decision. I was a bit reserved to register at first just because I wanted to make sure I got everything right. I see a lot of new people that make mistakes and are quickly shown the error of their ways. While some may see the attitudes and comments by Rangers on this site as a bit harsh, I feel completely the opposite. I love the attitude here. I was looking at the Navy's EOD program too, which is a great program. Those guys deserve a lot of respect for the training and the job that they do. The Navy as a whole just didn't seem to have the "Spirit" I was looking for. Whether or not I become a Ranger I won't ever quite and will constantly strive to be the best solider that I can be. Thank you again gentlemen for putting forth the effort in making this site what it is. While recruiters are good people they aren't always as knowledgeable as they like to appear. This site has helped me a great deal.
