Old FNG Intro

Post by davidbhill »

Hi, all. Don't know why it took me so long to get here. Wait, that's the same thing I said after every road march, when I straggled in. (sigh)

I served 1976-1979, got to Co B, 1/75th March 1977, left there in September 1978 (I really, really, really hate the water), wanted to check out "the rest of the Army" before I decided about re-upping, spent a year at the 2 by 4, and ETSed.

During my time at 1st Batt, I got to play with the M203, carried a PRC-77 a lot, then carried a PRC-74 some more, went to Ranger School, decided City Week was so much fun I would do it twice, graduated Class 7-78, let my old PL (who was then Co XO) talk me into filling the Company Supply Sergeant position just in time for the move to HAAF, and as mentioned above, really, really, really hate the water and wasn't inclined to take long swims in the ocean, so I went elsewhere. Years later I wished I had gone to A or C Co instead of the 2 by 4, but I didn't, so here I am, and happy to be here.

I almost got famous, too. Anybody remember that photo that was in Life or Look magazine in 1977? I was in the OTHER fire team, then one that DIDN'T get picked to go in the magazine, even though we posed in the Canoochee River just like they did.

RLTW!

The way I became a Ranger and have earned the small amount of success I have had in life has been mostly due to one quality - determination. Lefty.
