Based on my experienceI, we recommend that you follow this simple three-step hurricane preparedness plan:
STEP 1. Buy enough food and bottled water to last your family for at
least three days.
STEP 2. Put these supplies into your car.
STEP 3. Drive to Nebraska and remain there until Halloween.

Having grown up in Florida on the coast just short of Daytona Beach, I have to agree with Ranger Doc Cook's packing list. Recently (Charley) brought alot of havoc to my families house on the river, but their house was extremely new and did well. In the building of the house, they installed a generator to supply the house, minus AC, with gas for two weeks. In their generosity, neighbors tapped into it and overloaded the system after 48 hours. Kindness is great but in the end it got em for being prepared when ohters were not. My familyu was always in LE and mom was a nurse at the hospital so we always were squared away with supplies when needed, but make sure to get the chainsaws etc for debris and roadway cleanup.

Hard Pressed on my right. My center is yielding. Impossible to maneuver. Situation excellent. I am attacking.

Hurricane prep

One thing I can recommend is an old-fashioned plugin telephone.

You don't want the cordless type that requires a plug in to the AC power socket.

This is because the phone co maintains it's own power supply and a regular phone will keep working after the electricity goes out. The cordless-type phones require AC power, so you're out of luck with those.

Fortunately, you can come by these phones at Good Will-type stores.
